Re: VR Fullscreen Issue

Hey EuanK1,

I've actually tried Oculus Link as well (I also have a 3070 RTX, non Ti) and found it to be pretty choppy too. I'm not sure it is optimised for the Oculus renderer, as it is better but not amazing on Air Link too.

If you want to, you could try subscribing to the PTC (Public Test Channel) under the Beta options with the PC Oculus app. The other thing to try is setting TAA only in AA, not combined with DLSS and FidelityFX. Make sure you have ASW (asynchronous warp) turned on to Auto in the Oculus Debug Tool (found in the Oculus install folder).

Failing that what really works well for me is using the Virtual Desktop app, which can be purchased on the Quest 2. It actually uses OpenVR and I find I get much better performance using that application. It has SSW (like ASW but better - Synchronous Space Warp). If you want to find out more here is the website - vrdesktop.net. There is a discord site as well. You don't have to buy this of course, but if you decide it is worth trying make sure you buy the Quest 2 version (not the Rift one).

There is still some stuttering in the pits across all methods of VR I've tried, but on Virtual Desktop (what I use now) during racing it is smooth as silk and running at about 2500x2500 per eye roughly with max in game VR settings. I can say that it looks gorgeous when working properly.

Happy to say that after some testing today. Virtual Desktop is definitely the way to go with this game, using SSW I'm now getting a steady 45fps on Ultra High settings! Even with it disabled as a test, I was getting 60fps so a significant improvement from what I was getting before with running it through the Link Cable.

The Fullscreen bug is still a thing though so "Windowed(Fullscreen)" seems to be the temp fix for that, but the main thing is I can actually play this comfortably now in VR

Yeah I do, however I’m aware of the current issue of having the pedals connected separately and have them connected directly to my CSW V2.5 wheelbase

  • Maybe ill buy a virtual desktop, never used it before as the link is never failed me but everything else is unplayable atm

might need a guide on how to setup VD

ive got VD running how would i boot my f1 22 if I have it on the EA desktop app?

  • @vrtowel

I'd actually run F1 22 from the Origin client if you can. I've had my save corrupted when launching from the desktop shortcut (which launches EA Play) or loading from EA Play directly.

Via the Origin launcher it should bring up a small menu that allows you to pick VR. This will then load you into the game and load Steam VR as well.

@Silvercrow1983 Not in my opinion - no. Sure it has more latency (maybe 10-20ms) than a proper tethered connection but you won't notice it compared to the USB C Oculus Link method.

ok on the 1 benchmark with VD it's buttery smooth like my experience on Iracing (I use the link on 1.5x render res and 90hz with no AWS so its completely native)

no matter what I do via the link cable without AWS its unplayable jittering, with AWS its ever so slightly better with the jittering

I guess its VD for now, ill try some TT and report back,

side question does my oculus app render res and debug settings matter when using Virtual desktop

  • **further update**

the jittering was just as bad if not worse on VD for me once driving but in the benchmark it was smooth

looks like I'm back to link with ver modest settings for now :/

    welp
