Shifting problem with ps4 controller on pc

I linked my ps4 controller via steam to my PC without any issues. When running the game, I set gearbox settings to manual. The problem occurs when I use the preset 1 controller settings.

R2 = accelerate

L2 = brake

X = gear up

Square = gear down

The problem is when I start a race, I can't gear up without releasing my throttle. I cannot believe this is normal because when I change my settings:

R1= gear up

L1= gear down

These settings allow me to gear up when full throttle but it feels quite uncomfortable.

Does anyone have the same issue? Or do anyone know how to fix it?

Thanks!

  • With a disabled PS configuration, steam and my computer didn't recognize the controller.

    now I came with another solution. I downloaded the ds4 windows software and linked the controller to my PC.

    with this software my PC sees the controller as an Xbox controller. so eventually I needed to set steam settings to Xbox controller.

    after these steps I don't have the shifting problem anymore in game.

    Hi @OTH1997

    Do you have PlayStation Configuration Support enabled in your Steam controller settings? If so, can you try disabling it and see if you notice a difference?
