Something I recently learned about wet weather drives

Hi guys,

I don't know if this one is just me, but after playing the 2023 French GP, which saw rain a few laps in, and which lasted to the end of the race, I found out something very interesting, at least for me as a controller player, dunno if it's different with wheel players.

Ever since I started using presets in F1 2019, which worked out much better than I expected since preset setups are not meant for quick pace, I decided to try it out in F1 22 as well.

In F1 22, it's a little bit easier with the presets, as the game suggests one for every track, like Preset 3 for Melbourne, Preset 5 for Monza, or Preset 1 for Monaco.

Now, you would assume that someone like me who plays on a level close to Expert difficulty (74 in this case) might struggle a lot with preset setups, especially since F1 2021 was a horrible experience with preset setups. But honestly, especially for a controller player like me, the presets work way better than I thought.

About France, that track has Preset 4, which makes sense considering there is the Mistral straight, while the car is still stable enough to perform well in those tricky turns. And even in the rain, the car felt very good in my hands, even though the rear end was a bit twitchy, but it's nothing that throttle control couldn't fix.

I mean, sure, the car that I have in my current My Team Career save is the absolute definition of dominance, with almost maxed Aerodynamics and maxed Spec 2 Chassis upgrades, but it doesn't change the fact that I had an easier time with the preset setup compared to a custom setup.

I also tried this in the dry in Jeddah and Monaco, and it worked out as well.

One reason to why the system with presets is like that, is probably because of the wide range of wing angles that we can set in our setup. And in order to make it easier for new players, Codies suggest a preset setup for each track, and it's a neat addition, if you ask me. Overall, the presets are much better than in F1 2021 in my opinion.

If you play with a steering wheel, I would like to know if you guys have an easier time with presets as well, or if my theory about custom setups being better on a wheel is correct.

Yes, I agree, however, I feel preset setups are much better than the ones I do myself. As a wheel player I load a preset and drive it and adjust from there

As I am only a mid range player, not expert at all, so before a race I will test and adjust.
But what I also do is I go to Rage Man Limitless set ups and laps times area of his YouTube Channel and test his suggested setups for a particular track I am on
Inevitably I choose Limitless setups with a few adjustments for myself

But I get your point, the presets are not to bad, also, for someone who understands how the setups work in this game I think they can squeeze at least another second a lap and probably more from there own custom setup
