They have to make a compromise between performance and reliability. Using the settings with higher performance compromises the reliability of the vehicle by rapidly increasing damage to the engine components. This could be good to avoid that excessive change of setting that was done in 2018 and 2019 where at each corner entry you climbed the most conservative power supply and immediately increased the most performance one when exiting.

@Asstek46 No in esports they would still switch like crazy and even in normal GPs people would feel the need to only run high modes in the first half of a straight.. Forcing a change limit is easiest to avoid excessive change sadly
- mariohomoh3 years agoHero (Retired)@Meza994 limiting the number of changes per lap seem a very tacked on and videogamey quick fix that does not truly address the problem. I don't like this route. Hot swapping modes shouldn't be advantageous, not simply hard capped to curb the abuse.
I would like a Recovery mode and most definitely a better mapping of the ERS, but an artificial limit like this doesn't bode well with me.- Meza9943 years agoSeasoned Ace@mariohomoh Trust me there is no proper way for it with the way it currently works.. As long as we dont get fairly similar mapping to real life (full power out of the corners and fully stopping the MGU-K near the end of the straight) there is no proper way, induced damage would be even more artificial than limiting the change. And getting such a mapping would be quite some work compared to how it is now - only gear and current speed limited - and even then people wouldnt be happy.. When there is a chance to exploit the system players will do so, thats how gaming works sadly :/
And btw... Im shocked you are even mentioning a recovery mode, i thought this stuff was disgusting and only keeping the valuable handling developer from spending his time on suspension and tyre rework😱
On a serious note, 2 modes (+overtake) that we can map ourselfes would be best IMO, whether limited or not, still not too much IMO.. you could have a standard deployment mode + recovery mode, i could have a hotlap mode + recovery mode.- mariohomoh3 years agoHero (Retired)@Meza994 The current system is completely fine with me until Codemasters can come up with a proper, realistic implementation 😊
A sidestep with no basis in reality and real benefit apart from appeasing to some and upsetting others when the game already has other time demanding projects at hand doesn't sound good.
And, absolutely! If a band-aid to the ERS were to take time away from Greco and team to work on a more realistic driving experience I'd be more than happy to see the recovery mode and deployment tables cancelled on the To Do list 😚
