TC off for joypad users. Possible solution?
1.BACKGROUD:
I have played F1 games for over 30 years. Recent games have lots of varying options compared to those of old.
2.EXPERIENCE:
Some Top 20 TT records in F2 mode.
I use 100 to 110 AI in F2 and between 60 and 100 AI in F1 mode.
3. TRACTION CONTROL:
Most pad users will use some form of TC. It is extremely easy to spin out under acceleration. It is a very twitchy and sensitive affair. This is mainly due to the sensitivity and limited distance of trigger travel. Having TC set to off can be a very frustrating affair. Using any form of TC will slow you.TC off is much quicker and produces much faster lap times.
4. POSSIBLE SOLUTION:
In the game options under controller settings there is various ways you can set deadzones, linearity and saturation. The scale is set 1 to 100. Using a wheel and pedals is smooth because of the travel distance allowed by the pedal. There is amassive difference in inches of play and milimetres of play offered by the controller. So how can we help pad users to get faster?
The saturation of throttle and brakes needs to be extended. The travel is too short. This setting needs to be more than doubled for a pad user. It needs to register 250 and the length of the scale bar to be increased.
Using a good pedal set, it is easy to register a correct input value of 1,2,3,4,5,._._._100. With the current controller configurations it seems to only register in 20,40,60,80,100. Its very hard to hit the correct value on the pad. I think a small bit of work on the improvements to the saturation settings could go a long way in speeding up pad users and improving their overall game experience but ultimately the fastest way to play is with a good wheel and all assists off.
Much to our amazement, we resurrected an old worn out controller (the Gripper). The triggers and analouge are worn. It really helps. Everything is less sensitive and snappy. In TT we usually be in the top 20% of the world on average. In Bahrain we proudly sit in the top 13%. Our performance is up 7% this year.
Who'd a thought it?
A an old broken worn out controller was the way to go. A new pad is so sensitive, you can spin out much easier. The worn trigger applies the power slower. Its perfect for it. If you have an old controller lying aroud its worth giving it a go.
