This game really doesn’t like it when you’re “out of position” does it?
I have loads of examples of when I’m “out of position” in a positive sense, and something weird happens that is just too much of a coincidence…
Like the car directly ahead breaking down right in front of you, cars magically coming back from miles behind despite no DRS and no drop in my pace to explain, wet weather coming in much earlier than predicted…
My latest example is probably the most extreme;
New patch, started a new MyTeam career. AI 90, Started as a newcomer team. Fault frequency set to low.
Car is 9th in the dev rankings. 1st in the durability rankings though.
Race 1 - Bahrain - finish 9th. All good.
Race 2 - Saudi - DNF mechanical issue - control electrics. Was on for a points finish. OK…
Race 3 - Australia - lap 10 - SC comes out close enough to my pit window, and just as I’m coming round to pit entry. I immediately pit. A few laps later, DNF mechanical issue - control electrics… Was riding in 4th and would have definitely finished top 10.
Each time I DNF’ed in this season, I got no research points gained from failure like other times before, like in previous MyTeam saves…
Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm, OK 🧐🧐🧐
Curious to hear your experiences 🖖🏽
P.S. @ScarDuck14 you know what I’m talking about 😂
The "best" part of all this is in Race 2 and 3 in your example I bet if you restarted the session in both of those races you'd have the exact same DNF on the exact same lap. So would any AI failures that weren't accident/crash related. It's all pre-programmed.
I know when the game first came out you would at least get some R&D points for failures as you stated, but now it's just showing 0 all the time. Likely got broken in one of the 15 patches. Almost every failure that is mechanical/fault related outside of a collision is scripted before the race it seems. So, I don't think it's a conspiracy thing as others have stated, it's just destined that way.
I have also noticed when creating a new MyTeam save; the voice you get when setting up your team seems to determine the path your R&D failures and mechanical failures will take. There's one particular voice for example I note always results in my first few R&D developments failing. No matter what I do, with that particular person talking as part of my team there are more R&D failures. If I restart with one of the middle eastern sounding guys; first few R&D developments pass. However, if I can get that same voice (it sounds british in a way) it never fails my first few R&D developments fail. Maybe it's coincidence, but every single time I've had that particular person my first 2 or 3 developments always fail and I usually have a failure in Bahrain too.

This is 100% truth. I have reloaded sessions before getting the same results. It’s almost as if the game has punished me for finishing well “above my station” in the 1st race…
Fellow conspiracy theorists, you guys are going to love this…
So angered by the situation in my original post, I binned and restarted MyTeam season.
Race 1, Bahrain, I qualify 14th. Out of the first corner I am up into 8th 😎. The game starts doing all it’s weird things; drivers up ahead of me squabbling for position in corners (and slowing right down, mid-corner just as I’m behind for example). Loads of yellow flags as I get close to overtaking positions etc etc.
I am super good on my tyres. 50% race, and in Bahrain I can do S-M, everyone else doing M-H. Around lap 6, 4 laps before my pit window, SC comes out. I immediately pit for H tyre. Up into 4th after it all settles.
Game realises it needs to hamper me, and the quicker cars are catching up behind. Lap 12 - My DRS fails..
Luckily, I know exactly where and how to defend in Bahrain. Game throws a hissy fit, more yellow flags and another SC comes out around lap 18. I stay out. This time I’m up into 2nd. Overtake Russell for 1st on restart 😎
I manage to keep everyone behind until about lap 22 - another DRS failure hits me…
Luckily I still have enough ERS to defend, and I just about manage. DRS gets fixed 2 laps later.
VER behind is all over me, and I have to resort to playing chicken with DRS zones, just letting him get ahead into them but not enough so I can overtake again with DRS. Enough of a time cushion with the drivers behind him to not worry about them for the moment.
Manage to keep this up until lap 28 of 29. All of the top 3 behind are directly behind me on track now. I Manage to defend most of them but VER gets past into turn 4. RUS and LEC still squabbling for 3rd for the remainder of the lap, slowing them down just enough so I can manage to hold on to 2nd, JUST…
Cannot wait for the DNF’s destined for me because of this this result 😂

TLDR; game chucks loads of obstacles at me when I’m “above my station” in the race
- ScarDuck143 years agoLegend@Monzstar83 Dude similar thing at Australia. My new my team. I’ve started as mid team., 4th in Rankings. Funny enough also testing my Drag theory with a Major drag upgrade. Before restarting session did 5 lap race program. Where I was a second behind LeCrash in 1st on same tyres and down in tenth. Restarted session redid race program and finished entire session in 3rd 2 tenths off Russell in first. So come qualifying I was expecting 8-10th Qualifyied. 2nd 🤘. Race day. Check race director and Both Redbull and Alphas starting on Softs. I’m on mediums. Max starting in Fifth destroys everyone goes into First at the end off second Straight. I’m down in 4th. But weirdly my car was keeping up on the straights. By lap 5 Im challenging Max. Im not silly I know he’s got to pit within a few laps onto hards he’ll come out down the order and lose time moving up. So I sit behind letting him pull me round. Lap 8 he pits onto hards. And I’m off 3 second lead over Perez who I know will be putting the next lap.
But honest to god knew it would happen. And happen it did. Last sector on the following sector. Safety car!!
New strategy in the mfd. but noticed not for this lap but for the lap after once I’ve already caught behind the safety car. So hit pit this lap. Come into pit hit my turn in 0.5 as always. Wheel gets stuck come out behind Max and Sergio. All on hards. I did eventually win cause I kept up with them on the straight bits. Plus I’ve always enjoyed dancing in Australia.
I wish scripted excite mechanics would break but it’s a part off the game that never does😂 - TotosHeadphones3 years agoSeasoned Ace

Going to throw this in there, but having such an event filled race where you are pushed to make snap decisions and defending like a lion sounds like a helluva lot of fun!
In a way I understand some of the developers decisions, it's just the level as to how far the script goes to keep it "entertaining". Just be glad that it's not Nintendo, Mario Kart and the blue shell. The is the worst.
- ScarDuck143 years agoLegend@TotosHeadphones Problem is those off us who play often notice instantly for these reasons. Not enough variation to scripted excite mechanics that are used to often: For example Wet to dry or dry to wet always comes in few laps where the ai stay out but if we dare we die.
A RNG or similar that well thought out would be so much better.
Online Poker has been using random generated mechanics for years.- TotosHeadphones3 years agoSeasoned Ace@ScarDuck14 Yeah, I'm definitely not doubting you guys, far from it. I've seen scripted failures aplenty in My Team. As you say, scripting has to be fair to the player and not give AI the advantage in every single situation.

@TotosHeadphones oh yeah it was a blast. Just using the scenario to illustrate my point. 9 times out of 10 it goes wrong for me. I guess it some ways it just feels like Masi in Abu Dhabi last year lol.
Don't get me wrong, I really like the game. It’s just I kinda feel like the entertainment does not need to be manufactured; I’ll just set a harder AI level if I wanted that.
Fully appreciate it’s a difficult thing to balance, I just feel it goes too far sometimes.
P.S. I would always keep 2nd because of that blue shell - 100% will come 😎

@Monzstar83Honestly, I'd take some of that manufactured entertainment in my current My Team save on F1 2021. On average I'm at 98 AI and I play it so that I base it on the performance chart on the car. So currently 4th worst car so really just fighting Williams and Alfa. My races, even though I find them fun, I never make up places other than the one I start in unless I go on alternative tire strategy, safety car or dive bombing in the slow first lap the AI always do. Essentially I'm never in the position to be fast enough to overtake through pure pace. I like it and it feels authentic to me and therefore the AI never ever pull out ridiculous things on me like what you suggested! The AI doesn't deem me worthy enough... Probably explains why I have never had a DNF through mechanical failure over the various My Team saves.
So you lot saying that the AI hampers you when you're doing good, it's probably a sound theory. However, I can see why the excite mechanic is there, if you do it to easily you'll get bored quite quickly. I am no way supporting such mechanics and I guess I'm (un)lucky that I rarely experience the ones that attempt to hamper me
