The "best" part of all this is in Race 2 and 3 in your example I bet if you restarted the session in both of those races you'd have the exact same DNF on the exact same lap. So would any AI failures that weren't accident/crash related. It's all pre-programmed.
This is 100% truth. I have reloaded sessions before getting the same results. It’s almost as if the game has punished me for finishing well “above my station” in the 1st race…
Fellow conspiracy theorists, you guys are going to love this…
So angered by the situation in my original post, I binned and restarted MyTeam season.
Race 1, Bahrain, I qualify 14th. Out of the first corner I am up into 8th 😎. The game starts doing all it’s weird things; drivers up ahead of me squabbling for position in corners (and slowing right down, mid-corner just as I’m behind for example). Loads of yellow flags as I get close to overtaking positions etc etc.
I am super good on my tyres. 50% race, and in Bahrain I can do S-M, everyone else doing M-H. Around lap 6, 4 laps before my pit window, SC comes out. I immediately pit for H tyre. Up into 4th after it all settles.
Game realises it needs to hamper me, and the quicker cars are catching up behind. Lap 12 - My DRS fails..
Luckily, I know exactly where and how to defend in Bahrain. Game throws a hissy fit, more yellow flags and another SC comes out around lap 18. I stay out. This time I’m up into 2nd. Overtake Russell for 1st on restart 😎
I manage to keep everyone behind until about lap 22 - another DRS failure hits me…
Luckily I still have enough ERS to defend, and I just about manage. DRS gets fixed 2 laps later.
VER behind is all over me, and I have to resort to playing chicken with DRS zones, just letting him get ahead into them but not enough so I can overtake again with DRS. Enough of a time cushion with the drivers behind him to not worry about them for the moment.
Manage to keep this up until lap 28 of 29. All of the top 3 behind are directly behind me on track now. I Manage to defend most of them but VER gets past into turn 4. RUS and LEC still squabbling for 3rd for the remainder of the lap, slowing them down just enough so I can manage to hold on to 2nd, JUST…
Cannot wait for the DNF’s destined for me because of this this result 😂
As Charles would say “Let’s Goooooooooo” 😎

TLDR; game chucks loads of obstacles at me when I’m “above my station” in the race

Going to throw this in there, but having such an event filled race where you are pushed to make snap decisions and defending like a lion sounds like a helluva lot of fun!
In a way I understand some of the developers decisions, it's just the level as to how far the script goes to keep it "entertaining". Just be glad that it's not Nintendo, Mario Kart and the blue shell. The is the worst.
- ScarDuck143 years agoLegend@TotosHeadphones Problem is those off us who play often notice instantly for these reasons. Not enough variation to scripted excite mechanics that are used to often: For example Wet to dry or dry to wet always comes in few laps where the ai stay out but if we dare we die.
A RNG or similar that well thought out would be so much better.
Online Poker has been using random generated mechanics for years.- TotosHeadphones3 years agoSeasoned Ace@ScarDuck14 Yeah, I'm definitely not doubting you guys, far from it. I've seen scripted failures aplenty in My Team. As you say, scripting has to be fair to the player and not give AI the advantage in every single situation.

@TotosHeadphones oh yeah it was a blast. Just using the scenario to illustrate my point. 9 times out of 10 it goes wrong for me. I guess it some ways it just feels like Masi in Abu Dhabi last year lol.
Don't get me wrong, I really like the game. It’s just I kinda feel like the entertainment does not need to be manufactured; I’ll just set a harder AI level if I wanted that.
Fully appreciate it’s a difficult thing to balance, I just feel it goes too far sometimes.
P.S. I would always keep 2nd because of that blue shell - 100% will come 😎

@Monzstar83Honestly, I'd take some of that manufactured entertainment in my current My Team save on F1 2021. On average I'm at 98 AI and I play it so that I base it on the performance chart on the car. So currently 4th worst car so really just fighting Williams and Alfa. My races, even though I find them fun, I never make up places other than the one I start in unless I go on alternative tire strategy, safety car or dive bombing in the slow first lap the AI always do. Essentially I'm never in the position to be fast enough to overtake through pure pace. I like it and it feels authentic to me and therefore the AI never ever pull out ridiculous things on me like what you suggested! The AI doesn't deem me worthy enough... Probably explains why I have never had a DNF through mechanical failure over the various My Team saves.
So you lot saying that the AI hampers you when you're doing good, it's probably a sound theory. However, I can see why the excite mechanic is there, if you do it to easily you'll get bored quite quickly. I am no way supporting such mechanics and I guess I'm (un)lucky that I rarely experience the ones that attempt to hamper me- Monzstar833 years agoSeasoned Ace
@TotosHeadphonesSome very good points there.
The issue I have is having to set the AI for each weekend; I’ve struggled figuring it all out. With all the variables; car development, track, practice program targets etc, it’s a bit of minefield for me. Have tried various AI adjustment guides etc but it’s just too much effort, coupled with the fact we can’t change AI level at any time in session like before.
I know for sure I am stronger at BAH, SAU, AUS, MCO. IMO, MIA, USA I just get beat. The rest of the tracks I just about scrape the practice programs and can hold position in races, maybe making up a place or two. So over the whole season it balances out a bit.
In season 2 when the car is a bit more developed, it’s a bit better experience with less manufactured excitement, because you’re firmly in the middle of the pack at it can go either way with the AI.
I’ve started a tracking sheet which records various things and this may help me decipher the game to find my perfect AI level for each track, and I am likely going in the direction of adjusting AI per track.
On previous games (for me at least), the AI balance was a lot better and I didn’t experience too much of this manufactured excitement, when I was outperforming the car.I think if they reduced the excite mechanic by about 60%, I’t probably be in the sweet spot for me.
I’m sure you’d find it interesting if you dropped the AI level by 5 points; and least you know you can manufacture a bit more excitement if you need it 😎
