@Monzstar83Honestly, I'd take some of that manufactured entertainment in my current My Team save on F1 2021. On average I'm at 98 AI and I play it so that I base it on the performance chart on the car. So currently 4th worst car so really just fighting Williams and Alfa. My races, even though I find them fun, I never make up places other than the one I start in unless I go on alternative tire strategy, safety car or dive bombing in the slow first lap the AI always do. Essentially I'm never in the position to be fast enough to overtake through pure pace. I like it and it feels authentic to me and therefore the AI never ever pull out ridiculous things on me like what you suggested! The AI doesn't deem me worthy enough... Probably explains why I have never had a DNF through mechanical failure over the various My Team saves.
So you lot saying that the AI hampers you when you're doing good, it's probably a sound theory. However, I can see why the excite mechanic is there, if you do it to easily you'll get bored quite quickly. I am no way supporting such mechanics and I guess I'm (un)lucky that I rarely experience the ones that attempt to hamper me
@TotosHeadphonesSome very good points there.
The issue I have is having to set the AI for each weekend; I’ve struggled figuring it all out. With all the variables; car development, track, practice program targets etc, it’s a bit of minefield for me. Have tried various AI adjustment guides etc but it’s just too much effort, coupled with the fact we can’t change AI level at any time in session like before.
I know for sure I am stronger at BAH, SAU, AUS, MCO. IMO, MIA, USA I just get beat. The rest of the tracks I just about scrape the practice programs and can hold position in races, maybe making up a place or two. So over the whole season it balances out a bit.
In season 2 when the car is a bit more developed, it’s a bit better experience with less manufactured excitement, because you’re firmly in the middle of the pack at it can go either way with the AI.
I’ve started a tracking sheet which records various things and this may help me decipher the game to find my perfect AI level for each track, and I am likely going in the direction of adjusting AI per track.
On previous games (for me at least), the AI balance was a lot better and I didn’t experience too much of this manufactured excitement, when I was outperforming the car.
I think if they reduced the excite mechanic by about 60%, I’t probably be in the sweet spot for me.
I’m sure you’d find it interesting if you dropped the AI level by 5 points; and least you know you can manufacture a bit more excitement if you need it 😎

I don’t mind scripted events. It’s more the ai cheats and those I can handle. But when I’ve spent the best part off 2 hours. Where I’ve not missed one apex the entire race. (I missed a few) and banging in consistent fast times lap after lap. And with just a few laps left. I’m chased down by multiple cars. That ain’t just fast but bonkers crazy and often results in having to let them pass or being taken out. And still that wouldn’t bother me. That’s racing. But when it keeps happening so many times and I look at race director and you see last 4 laps they start lapping up to 1.5 secs a lap quicker than there previous laps on old tyres. Where I for no reason start lapping a second slower. Raging over a game is no fun
if the game determines I’m to be rammed into a wall I wish it do it in the first half 😂

It tends to take into account all the factors you mentioned and the level is based on your flat out pace. I do this for my team in first season; I write the AI level in my track setup for the races after I do the respective race in GP mode as practice before my team race. The next season I don't have to waste time as AI level is noted when I load the setup from practice. Sometimes second season qualifying is harder for some tracks but race level tends to be spot on.
If I reduced AI level by 5 that would be driving Max Verstappen 2022 mode, I don't think the AI deserves that 😅 Besides, I get great satisfaction from trying to keep in DRS zones and carefully planned overtakes or doing overcuts and undercuts on my competitors. So maybe the lack of excite mechanics probably suits me better even though I do like the odd last lap AI hunting down. I don't find it fun just blasting by everyone but each to their own, you can play the game however you want it. 🙂

Last year finding ai level was relatively simple. Beginning my team career. You start very close to alpha tauri and gasly pace rating was 90.
At Bahrain end iff FP1 go to race director look at his lap times on mediums. Then for every second your faster/slower either increases/decrease. Ai by 10
This year I believe ai increase by a tenth per 10 difficulty…. 1.1 - 1.2 - 1.3 etc etc.
