Thrustmaster ts xw FFB issue

Dear all,

I'm having the following issue with my Thrustmaster TS-XW Racer on F1 22.

I was playing around with the FFB settings in game because it was not strong enough compered to F1 2021 and noticed the following.

When choosing the the preset for my wheel compered to last years game (f1 2021) the FFB strength has been lowered from 100 to 70 in F1 22. Now you would say just put it higher and it should be fine but that's not the case. If I put the FFB strength up the understeer enhancing seems to drop of meaning the higher I put it the less its noticeable. Now in my opinion this seems weird because the previous game had a preset of 100 FFB strength and there it is all fine. Now iknow this years game had new physics and its way different but still this should be working with 100 FFB strength.

Now for the second issue and that one is a little worrying for me. When putting the FFB strength to 100 in game my wheel just locks in position at random moments while driving. If I put the FFB higher then 100 it happens more often. If I put it lower then 100 then it will happen less. I have tried until 85 FFB strength and it only happend once the whole day. Now keeping in mind what I mentioned earlier it seems like the game just does not work as it should with this wheel. When going higher then 70 FFB you get all these issue's mentioned. If you keep it on 70 it's fine but a toddler could turn that wheel easily.

Anyone any tips on these issue's? Please keep in mind that the wheel is now 1 month old, the issue's don't appear on F1 2021 and I'm playing on Xbox series X.

Thanks in advance.

  • @Eyturk32 I'll take a guess!
    Have you updated your firmware?
Have you then set up your wheel in the Thrusmaster menus?
After getting those settings right then go in game.
70 FFB is ok to start
Next wheel damper....till you get these 2 right leave everything else at 0.
You say 70 is fine then start bumping up wheel damper till happy.
Your wheel locking sounds like clipping.
Id check some youtube vids on setting up the thrusmaster menu and their support page.

    @BadMayh3m Thanks for the reply.

Yes I have updated the firmware before use and set te settings in the thrustmaster menu to the recommended. Yes at 70 it works fine but to weak for my liking. Especially considering its on 100 in F1 2021. First I also thought it might be clipping but it seems to be something else because the FFB is physically much less then F1 2021 or Assetto Corsa what I also play. And yesterday it got so bad with F1 22 that my wheel was actually broken for a minute or 2 😂 See the video's in the link.

Now I have also send this over to Thrustmaster and done some troubleshooting myself and also noticed that on initial startup of the game the wheel angle is always incorrect. It should be 360 according to the settings but it's more like 320 till 300.Now when you in game and calibrate the wheel again it gets 360 as it should. And sometimes I even get the wheel rotation of the supercars while driving an F1 car. When this happens I must restart the game because recalibration does not fix this. Also an issue I only have in this years game.

Now I don't know if its a hardware or software issue because it only happend on F1 22 but I'll keep on trying in other games and hope it's the wheel it self. Because if not then there will probably be no fix for this.

  • Just a quick note for the video's. This happend after turning in to a corner and it just locked in position. The video where you see it calibrating is after I closed the game. And I have played 2 hours on F1 2021 since and nothing happend there with higher FFB settings as a preset of that game.

@Eyturk32 I cant see the vid as very little works with MS Edge.
You say 70 is good but a toddler could turn it.
Wheel damper is what decides how tuff it is to turn the wheel.
As a test set your Wheel damper to 20 and FFb to 70 Im pretty sure you'll have to turn it down.

My next question is what wheel do you have with your base as all wheels are not compatible with this game?

Thrustmaster wheels have the ability to manually set wheel rotations but there are only 5 presets.
Ckeck their support page on how to do this.

That's unfortunate that you can't see the video's because I think it will show that it's something else then clipping I think.

70 is indeed good as in it works without issue. For my liking I would like to turn it up like I have in other games but then I get the issue showing in the video. I also played around with the wheel damper and yes it should help making the steering wheel heavy so that's a great tip. Only it does exactly nothing in my case. If run it from the preset which is 1 until 100 and no change in how the wheel feels or turns.

I'm using the Sparco p310 which has a preset in game so it should be supported I guess. I'm really having a hard time understanding the issue with this.

Regarding the wheel rotation I will look it up thanks for that tip also.

Also just to check I just now tried the wheel damper setting on F1 2021 and there it works just fine as it is suppose to. Wheel get indeed heavy to turn.
