Tyre strategy in the Game

In every gamemode the tyres are locked for sessions.

In the practice session you got 1 hard, 2 mediums 3 softs.
After every practice you have to hand back 2 tyres (the tyres with the most wear).
In quali you got 5 softs.
In the race you get 1 medium and 1 hard in addition to the tyres of the quali.

In Reality the teams can manage all the tyres over the week-end.

Also they dont need to hand back tyres after every practice session.
So they are able to use the worn tyres of practice in the race.

Would be an improvement to let the players manage their tyres too.

I think they changed it after the teams couldn't choose their tyres anymore.
Pirelli always gives them the same amount of softs, mediums and hards.
And they have to manage by themself.

The German broadcast always got a list of tyres which are fresh and used so they know in the race.
(Idk if other have these too)

It was specifically the returning of tyres at the end of practice sessions I was querying? I can't quickly find anything definitive on this - do you have anything you're able to share to prove the requirements have been dropped?

@mariohomoh probably knows all about this if he's about actually?

The tyre strategy could actually be soo good in the game.. all that needs to be done is simply

    • Lift the lock on tires for practice (except for the single Q3 tyre, thats the rules)
    • Make the C1 tyre slower, 0.5-1% less grip to simulate how bad it is IRL
    • Dont lock the strategy to ~75% tyre maximum but to 90% maximum as these tyres just dont get punctures from wear or only shortly before hitting the canvas
    • add more time to the expected race time in the strategy for each stop, short tracks with short pitlane 4-6s, long tracks with long pitlane 7-9s, Singapore and Monaco 10s minimum

This would mostly lead to less stupid AI strategies doing 2 stops when the player can easily do a 1 stop, make for realistic behaviour on the tracks with C1-C3 tires, allow some car specific race pace with different tyre wear as the AI wont make unnecessary stops but for example Merc can keep good pace while Ferrari will reach higher tyre wear and slowly fall of the pace..

It could be soo good if these things were implemented and they dont even take much effort i think ☹️

Agreed that this should change. I think it was updated last season to allow teams to manage all sets of tires that can be used.

You do still have to give back sets of tires though.

@Nylink Yes you have to give tyres back but except for one set (of softs i believe) thats forced to be saved for Q3 its free choice.. Maybe 1 set of Mediums for P2 but the rules have been posted in another thread but in the end rather have a little too much freedom instead of being limited way too far
