So to bump this up, and shed more light on my findings. Today I've been on GP mode on Xbox, around Hungary as Mick Schumacher. Qualified 2 tenths ahead of K. Mag. And for the first 3/4 laps of each stint could at least match him, maybe slightly faster. But after that he passes and pulls away and I'm just trying to keep the baying pack behind me, as if tyre wear hasn't had an effect on them at all. by the end of an 18 lap race, K.mag finished 20 seconds in front.
So It's either they aren't affected by tyre wear or the player car doesn't lose any weight while burning of fuel, in my humble opinion.
And before anyone replies saying it's not, please do this test for me. Should only take 30 mins.
Go to GP, set the race to Hungary, pick any team you want but try and get the level, so you qualify around your TM in short qualifying. 25% race distance. Use the default set-ups (which I'm still assuming the AI uses) in a clear session. And tell me what you think.

Today, I've done the same test with the same AI & settings, only changing my set-up to mine. I qualified a full second ahead of K-Mag. But the same thing happened after 3/4 laps of going faster than him at the start of each stint, he then starts closing the gap. And instead of beating my TM comfortably, he finished the race only 2 seconds behind.
I also ran it over a 50% race and the same thing happened, My teammate beat me, but that's because I had a 5-second penalty. Without that, I was only 2 seconds ahead of him again.
Edit. If you have your rearview mirror on, you can see how shiny their tyres are compared to yours, even using the default set up.
- @DRudd13 You could well be right. But I was dominated by Ai at Hungary and although it’s not my best track. But I had consistent pace and was hitting my marks and tyre wear (temps for most part we’re ok) on both my mediums and hards in a 50% never exceeded 50%
But every corner I had atleast one ai benign bonkers mental and going for gaps that were not there:
However next race at Spa with no new upgrades on my car. I won the race and was on average 2 seconds a lap faster than Those behind.
So not convinced tyres is the main factor. I think it’s more a scaling issue. As when I occasionally do a full race. Ai push laps aren’t as fast as they are in 50% race. Beginning off race. In/out pit lap and last couple off laps.
Also 25% race distance tyre wear for human and ai are x2 rate instead off x4.
And if I start a my team career with race weekends set to max length and ai to 100. Game to me feels better balanced even if I change length back to 50%
But if I start career with race distance at 50% and forget to put ai up to 100 everything feels offI'm just sharing my observations, hoping someone can work it out. That was just what I felt was happening in Hungary. But after what you said about Spa, I had to see what happened there using the same settings and AI and the default set up again, so we are all the same as far as I'm aware. And I do know about the wear being x2 on 25%.
Starting in Hungary, I've done it at 75 as that's around where I qualify around my TM on a few tracks (including Hungary as show in qualifying pic), but it's 15 lower than last year when I was up to 90 but full TC this year and not medium, might have something to do with that, but never had it at 100, don't think I'd be competitive. I got my 5-second penalty when Norris had a lunge from nowhere, but there were a few times I had to position my car in the right place to make them back off a little and keep some behind. But a lot of hard work, as those in front just pulled away (race result pics)
