Same on PS4. This is usually the case if you restart the session WHILE he still speaks.
Have you managed to get it working again?
I didn't think voice commands worked for anyone on XBOX? They do on PS4 but I think mention of this may have confused this thread?
On ps5 with the official pad so should support voice. But this and 21 never worked for me?
By speak to race engineer I gather you mean accessing the MFD options and manually selecting one entry from the list? That can happen if you flashback or otherwise interrupt the system while the engineer is mid speak.
Now actually using voice commands is not possible anymore on the current gen. For Xbox, something to do with Kinect and how they no longer support that. For playstation, Sony has yet to made the voice interface available to third party developers.
You can use voice commands on the PS4 version of the game running in a PS5 system though. The compatibility mode fully simulates the PS4, including the voice commands interface that it had.
