Which VR Headset for F1 2022?

Hello,

I think of getting a VR Headset just for this game.

My questions:

Which are supported? all of them? I read something about HTC Vive, Ocolus Rift, Quest 2, Valve Index

Which one to go for? Just for this game and maybe some other racing games.

How much PC Power do i need for that?

Thanks

  • If you don't already own a headset I would definitely wait until the game has been released and see what the user feedback is like before choosing.

  • I have the Quest 2 and it creates a very good experience of what it is like to drive a car.

The only headsets officially stated as being supported are Oculus Rift and HTC Vive:

    https://www.ea.com/en-gb/games/f1/f1-22/news/f1-22-announce

Given the wheel compatibility issues many suffered with F1 2021 I'd do as I said above though - wait for the game to be released and see how well any specific headset actually works before buying one.

A quick Google suggests they may have different resolutions and refresh rates? Whatever, the official info. is what I stated and I'd be a little cautious over advising others beyond this to be safe.

  • Thanks.

After some research i saw that most of the suggestions from EA are EOL headsets basically.

I am thinking of HP Reverb G2 or Valve Index as of now.

Ill wait until release though because i wont take risks here.

hmm, WMR is not listed, hope it will work with Reverb G2 anyway.

  • If you have the hardware for it, the best sim racing headsets are currently considered to be the HP Reverb G1, HP Reverb G2, Pimax 8K X, and Varjo Aero.  None of them are currently listed as being supported, but most every one is fairly certain that they'll be compatible since they all run SteamVR.

How much power you need for any of those, is more than currently exists.  Can you run sims with maxed frame rates with existing hardware?  Sure, but there are always compromises, even if it's just super sampling.  That said, high end CPU & GPU's will give you an incredible experience with good graphical fidelity.  If you have lower end hardware, then you might want to consider a lower end headset such as the Quest 2 or Index.

In the last dev deep dive Lee Mather mentioned that the headsets listed on steam are the only ones they tested. The G2 should work I think, but it isn't guaranteed by Codemasters. I think that it will work because the Index and G2 both work via SteamVR.
