@webtel1992 Not sure. I don’t. Think we can. Last year before starting my team of career you were asked if you wanted the number 1 if you won title. No such option this year.
@ScarDuck14 I think you're referring to F1 2020, where if you pick a number, the game asks you if you want to use the number 1 if you become champion? And I think that this is a better system, because then, you can safely confirm that you will get the 1 if you win the season.
Since 2021, you need to become champion before the game asks you if you want to use the 1 or not.
Alternatively, you can just destroy Verstappen's car in every single race to strip him of the 1.

@LuckyNico92No nico.., in 2021 it asks you when your setting up your my team career and when you name your driver and your number.
@petro1319 it doesn’t do this in 22. We’ll not on PlayStation.

If I'm not mistaken it doesn't automatically come up like it did in previous games but I think if you go to your driver info screen between seasons where you can change your number you'll get the prompt. I declined it because I like my own number but did not notice if Max drove the following year as #1 or 33. But then my gamesave got corrupted and would no longer load, so yeah... I can't go check now.
