Tested using Wired Xbox Series Controlled or Bluetooth. What happens when the bug occurs? The game has a ~100ms delay for registering any controller input. It was measured by recording the screen and counting frame-by-frame using a video editor. The response time was compared with an controller overlay(gamepadviewer.com) in OBS, streaming software. Time to first input response (from gamepadviewer) to the first in-game player response. What should be happening instead? The game shouldn't have any delay registering controller inputs. It get's worse when we hop into online matches, since the network latency is also added to the inputs.
It's noticeable that the game registers the input only several frames after. The game engine responds even after.
On online games the issue gets worse since there are network packets round trip latency. But even with 30ms stable connection, the game is barely playable at the moment.
I've been facing this issue since day one from early access. Tried a plethora of video settings combination, to no improved result, Tried increasing USB polling rate from my controller with no fix.
I'm on Windows 11, Using a Xbox Series Controller, Wired via USB. Same happens to Bluetooth connection.
I have no performance issues with this game at all. I get stable 230fps without v-sync or frame limitation.
My DxDiag is attached.
From the video below:
Orange Marker: Time to Slide Tacke Animation Start 10 frames ~= 166.67ms
Green Marker: Time to Player Switch 8 frames ~= 133.33ms
Red Marker: Time to Slide Tacke Animation Start 9 frames ~= 150ms
I've recorded 120fps footage to confirm the in-game latency of responding to controller inputs. This footage helps illustrate the overall delay, but in real-life conditions, the situation is even worse, as this measurement doesn't account for:
I used the "next player switch" function because it's one of the quickest screen responses (changing a 2D arrow to indicate the next player).
Important Note on Frame Rate: Since the video is recorded at 120fps, each frame represents approximately 8.33 ms (calculated as 1000 ms / 120 fps).
No Additional Latency Observed for OBS or GamepadViewer:
At the start of the video, I verified that no additional latency was introduced by using OBS or GamepadViewer. OBS GamepadViewer outputs my inputs in real-time, and the timestamps below confirm this:
GamepadViewer Response: 00:00:00:014
Windows Game Controller Test: 00:00:00:015
Steam Response: 00:00:00:021
Another set of measurements showed similar timings:
GamepadViewer Response: 00:00:00:050
Windows Game Controller Test: 00:00:00:054
Steam Response: 00:00:00:058
Observed Latencies in FIFA 25 (Single Player - Squad Battles) - 120fps
Here are some measurements taken from the video, showing the latency between input and game response:
GamepadViewer to Player Switch: 108.29 ms (13 frames)
Conclusion
The measurements show significant latency from the point when the input is registered by GamepadViewer to when the game responds visually, specifically for player switching.
GamepadViewer to Game Input takes around 41.65 ms to 74.97 ms (5 to 9 frames).
GamepadViewer to Player Switch ranges from 74.97 ms to 116.62 ms (9 to 14 frames).
These values demonstrate the inherent latency present in the game even under ideal conditions without factoring in screen latency, controller latency, or network delay. This could have a substantial impact on player responsiveness, especially in online competitive play.
@Davigugu55 EA don’t care. They haven’t cared for years and refuse to acknowledge issues with gameplay performance. It’s disgraceful that a AAA game is this poorly optimised but that’s what you get when you lazily copy+paste a game every year when there’s no real competition.
@Davigugu55This is beyond shame for a company making football games since ‘98. The ammount of interest they actually give about gameplay is 0 compared to glowing cards. Hopefully competitors will come and it will be a raise of technical standards or a failure. 100€ to 70€ game...
@Davigugu55 Thank you for collecting this. I am commenting to keep this up top. Mods tried to collect data from us last year, and I am sure it was delivered to the useless devs.
Same issue with the game. No matter what settings you adjust, connections, rebooting etc.. They will blame us when "Nobody that I know has a good connection"
Just to note, the gameplay was fine in early access before the official release. With every update, EA tends to do something that make the experience worse. It may be servers, it may be the horrible compensation.
At this rate, I am afraid they won't do a thing. I will be cancelling my subscription after the month runs out if they don't try!
