Me too but on PC (Via Steam). The first game of the EFL Championship season did have 9 players, however, after playing the first EFL Cup game (which only had a bench size of 7) - all games since have had a bench size of 7.
All English competitions in the game should have 9 players on the bench. This bug (or negligence) needs addressing.
This still hasn’t been fixed as of Title Update #6.

Seriously: what’s the point in having live start points for the championship, if they cannot be bothered to update the bench size?
Title update 7 and there are still only 7 bench slots in EFL league competitions.
I’m at the point now where I simply don’t believe the devs/designers have sufficient knowledge of the sport to be working on the game. It’s certainly not tested.
They can’t even implement the rules of the leagues they have in the game. EFL Championship is one of the very few leagues where they have Live Start Points yet they haven’t even configured the league properly. Shocked it hasn’t been addressed.
It's honestly ridiculous that this still hasn't been fixed.
In the latest update, they mentioned they fixed the Champions League format so that teams from the same nation can't face each other in the initial league phase so they can definitely fix this easily, they probably just don't care.
