Buying and playing Madden 24

I want to play madden against my grandson over the internet.

I intend to buy the standard edition for his PS5 and the standard edition for my PC.

Some really basic questions.

1) Using the standard edition can we just choose a team each and then play the game. No fancy stuff, no advancement, just what it used to be like 20 years ago.

2) Are the standard versions both delivered as downloads, ie can I only get the PC version from Steam and is the PS5 version a download or can I get physical media for either or both.

3) I have read over the last couple of hours that playing against another platform from a PC doesn't work. Does it work, can I choose my grandson ONLY to play against.

4) Years ago you could set your own plays, playbooks, audibles etc. Can I do this on my PC and he do it on the PS5 and be able to use them every time.

Anything else I need to know ?
