NEEDED ASAP: Defensive Game Fatigue in Competitive Play
It happens in almost every game of football. The offense goes on long drives and the defense gets tired out. It's a real thing. It's fundamental to football.
I'm watching the Cowboys vs Chargers on Monday Night and they talked about it. They explained that Kellen Moore prefers to throw the ball all game in just about every situation and Mike McCarthy sees value in keeping the defense off the field so they can stay fresh.
There's nothing at the competitive level that simulates this even a little. It's frustrating. I routinely go on double digit drives and dominate time of possession, yet my opponents don't have to worry about any of that. They just jaunt down the field using hurry up offenses looking for home runs 4 downs at a time.
That needs to change like yesterday. There has to be an impact to tackling Nick Chubb 40 times a game. The DB's should be slower. The DE and LB's should have hands on hips. The Defense in general should be gassed and easier to run on the longer the game goes on. My style of play should be rewarded in a close game in the 4th quarter. But instead, the defense is 100% fresh, the DBs's run just as fast as they always do, and the DE's and LB's largely don't exist because there's still 8 DB's on the field!
