I'm having the same issue and I just chatted with support for like an hour. They said children accounts can't play cross platform because of laws in America. But I don't understand why he can play online with friends who have an Xbox system but apparently it's illegal for them to play with friends on a PlayStation? Doesn't make any sense. He plays fine with Fortnite and COD. However, the support agent was pretty dense and kept telling me Fortnite and call of duty are not EA games and couldn't understand the example. And we wouldn't mind losing our progress by unlinking the account, but he told me I will not be able to link that Xbox gamer tag to a different Apex account, if the Apex account is an adult account. So because of this silly federal law, parents just set up their accounts as adults to begin with completely defeating, any protections and purpose. I still don't understand why he can play friends on Xbox (even in Apex Legends), but not cross platform, this is clearly an EA sports issue not a law or any other excuse

    perfect example of CHEATING..You get your "child" account and let your Main account Win..thats why its NOT allowed AND RIGHTFULLY SO

    I had the exact same conversation with support. And I came to the same conclusion, those that follow the guidelines and create kid accounts are punished, and the only option is to not create kid accounts for our kids. My kid's friends are all playing on adult accounts, my son is punished because I created his account truthfully. 

    And yes, it only applies to EA games, Fortnite, Minecraft, CoD, those can all play cross platform under kid accounts if parents consent in the settings.

    One work around I can see is if the friends who play on Playstation also link their EA account to an Xbox account, our kids can play. This requires to Playstation friends to setup and link Xbox accounts, even if they don't have an Xbox.
