This kind of issue can be super frustrating, especially when you’re running an online franchise. Here’s a breakdown of what likely happened and how to try fixing it:
- Your friend’s account (the EA account tied to the Saints team) was deleted or deactivated.
- The franchise still thinks the Saints are assigned to that account, even though it no longer exists.
- Because the profile is blank or corrupted, you can't remove it or assign it to someone else—essentially causing a ghost owner bug.
Here are a few workarounds that have worked for others in similar situations:
If you're the commissioner:
- Go to "Manage League" > "Users".
- Find the blank/bugged profile (it may appear with no name or as "Unknown").
- Try selecting "Clear User" or "Retire User"—even if it looks empty.
Sometimes doing this from the Madden Companion App on your phone works when it doesn’t in-game.
Next, have someone try to:
- Join the league from a different account.
- Select "Join as Saints."
If it blocks them, try joining a different team first, then retiring and attempting to switch to the Saints (this has worked in rare cases).
