Coach Mode Needs Reliable Access to Pre-Play Custom Adjustments
I wanted to bring attention to an issue with the pre-play Custom Adjustments, also referred to as Macros, because it has a pretty significant impact on Coach Mode leagues.
The Custom Adjustment system is accessed by holding the play-call button while you are still on the play-call screen. The idea is great because it allows you to prepare different coaching adjustments ahead of time and apply them before selecting your play.
The problem is that accessing them is not consistent.
On Defense
When I hold the play-call button, sometimes it opens my saved Custom Adjustments / Macros.
Other times, that exact same input opens the D-Line Stunts menu instead.
I have not been able to identify a consistent reason why one menu appears instead of the other. In my experience, it actually seems to lean pretty heavily toward showing the Stunts menu.
There also does not appear to be a way to toggle between Stunts and Macros.
So I can create a Macro specifically for something like 3rd-and-long, reach 3rd-and-long in an actual game, hold the button to use it, and get D-Line Stunts instead. Now the adjustment I specifically prepared for that situation is unavailable.
On Offense
There is a similar problem on offense, except there is no Stunts menu involved.
Sometimes holding the play-call button correctly opens my offensive Custom Adjustments / Macros.
Other times I can hold the same button and nothing happens at all.
So right now it essentially feels like:
Defense: Macros OR D-Line Stunts
Offense: Macros OR nothing happens
Why This Matters So Much for Coach Mode
There are a lot of organized Coach Mode leagues where users are not allowed to make manual adjustments after selecting their play.
The whole point is to coach the team rather than manually control everything at the line. You make your decisions from the play-call screen, choose the play, and then let the CPU players execute it.
In many of these leagues, pre-play Custom Adjustments / Macros are legal because they are coaching decisions made before the play is selected.
That makes this feature incredibly useful for us.
We can prepare adjustments for things like:
- Obvious passing downs
- Inside or outside run tendencies
- Short-yardage situations
- Deep passing situations
- Mobile quarterbacks
- Red-zone situations
But for that system to really work in Coach Mode, we need to be able to reliably access those adjustments when the situation actually comes up.
I am not asking for additional adjustments or anything that would give Coach Mode players an advantage. I just want consistent access to a feature that is already in the game.
What Could Fix It
Ideally, Macros / Custom Adjustments and D-Line Stunts would have separate controls.
If there are not enough available buttons, another solution could be letting us toggle between:
MACROS | STUNTS
There could also be an option to choose which one the shared button prioritizes.
On offense, I would simply like holding the play-call button to consistently open the Custom Adjustment menu instead of sometimes doing nothing.
If the current behavior is intentional, it would also be really helpful to know what determines when Macros are available and when Stunts take their place.
I really like the Custom Adjustment system, and it has the potential to be an especially useful feature for Coach Mode players. It would genuinely mean a lot to see this improved because reliable pre-play adjustments can add a lot to the coaching and strategy side of this game mode.
If it would help, I would be more than happy to provide video examples or do additional testing to help reproduce what is happening.
