Madden 27: I've noticed that the new catching mechanics for wide receivers, tight ends, and running backs are quite flawed. One major issue I keep encountering is that wideouts and defensive backs often jump to catch the ball at the same height, which should realistically depend on their jump ratings. For example, if I have a 6-foot-5 receiver or tight end attempting to catch a pass, and a 5”11" defensive back jumps over him, the outcome should be determined by their respective jump ratings, not just height. Additionally, height and body size should influence interactions between wide receivers and defensive backs. It’s unrealistic for a large-bodied receiver to be easily pushed around by a 5’9" defensive back. In real football, you never see a scenario where a wide receiver and a defensive back both go for a jump ball, and the DB misses his swat, bumps into the receiver, and causes the receiver to drop the ball. Despite weekly updates, I find myself ignoring or forgetting to adjust my catching strategy because these mechanics remain inconsistent and frustrating.
