Ball Carrier pitching the ball

I originally bought the Deluxe edition of Madden 16 for PS3...After around week 3 of the season I got rid of it, due to in MUT (the main mode I'd play) the ball carrier RB/WR would randomly pitch the ball whenever I was trying to avoid being tackled. I was not pushing L1. It made my experience pretty much unplayable, and there's no option in settings that I'm aware of disabling this feature. I recently decided to give the game another go, and purchased the Super Bowl Edition this past Tuesday, and again, I keep running into this issue. I cannot stress how annoying it is. I understand it may be a controller issue...but there seriously needs to be a setting where you can disable/enable this "pitch" feature. It would be great, to have this option disabled most of the game, but then be able to enable it, at the end of a half, or end of the game when trailing, but having it constantly engaged is complete garbage IMO. It could even work much like the chew clock option.
