Summarize your bug During any game in franchise mode and in the free practice mode in franchise, the "Cornerback Matchups" function under the "Coaching Adjustments" tab in the pre-play menu is not working correctly. Whenever the function is set to matchup "By Speed", the game will occasionally have linebackers matched up against wide receivers, and cornerbacks matched up against running backs in coverage assignments. Rather than only consider the speed attribute of cornerbacks for the cornerback matchup function, the game is considering the speed attributes of cornerbacks AND linebackers, and this leads to some extremely poor matchups for the defense.
How often does the bug occur? Often (50% - 99%)
Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? This bug can easily be replicated by simply going into a franchise game or the free practice mode in franchise and setting the "Cornerback Matchups" function under the "Coaching Adjustments" tab on the pre-play menu to "By Speed".
What happens when the bug occurs? When this bug occurs, linebackers are lined up in coverage matchups against wide receivers, and cornerbacks are lined up in coverage matchups against running backs. When this bug occurs, linebackers are often lined up in man coverage against a wide receiver on the perimeter of the defense. In addition, this also leads to situations where cornerbacks are matched up with running backs in man coverage. As a result, this leads to situations where linebackers are in coverage against wide receivers that they are unable to cover, and cornerbacks are lined up in the box in an area where they asked to stop the run but are obviously not the ideal players to do so. A perfect example of this is that on the team I use in franchise, my middle linebacker is Devin White, and when I set the "Cornerback Matchups" function under the "Coaching Adjustments" tab on the pre-play menu to "By Speed", Devin White always gets matched up with a wide receiver. I realize that Devin White is one of the fastest players on the field, but obviously you never want a linebacker to be matched up with a receiver on the outside in any coverage. In addition, this leads to situations where corners are playing in the box, and obviously you don't want your cornerbacks to be playing in the box given how weak they are against the run.
What do you expect to see? I expect to see this function work in such a way that my fastest cornerbacks are matched up with my opponents fastest receivers when I set the "Cornerback Matchups" function under the "Coaching Adjustments" tab on the pre-play menu to "By Speed". This function should not lead to linebackers being asked to cover wide receivers or have cornerbacks line up inside in the box in order to cover running backs. Unless the defense is in a personnel grouping where there are simply not enough cornerbacks to cover every opposing wide receiver, a linebacker should never be assigned to cover a wide receiver via the cornerback matchup function.

The source of this bug appears to come from the fact that the "Cornerback Matchups" function, when set to "By Speed" is simply comparing the speed attributes of all on-field linebackers and all on-field cornerbacks to the speed attributes of all on-field running backs and all on-field wide receivers and matching them up in order from the highest speed attribute to the lowest speed attribute. In actuality, the speed attributes of all on-field cornerbacks should be compared exclusively to the speed attributes of all on-field wide receivers. The number of situations where it would be beneficial for a defense to have a linebacker matched up with a wide receiver in coverage or have a cornerback matched up with a running back in coverage is extremely low. This bug is rendering the "By Speed' setting of the "Cornerback Matchups" function near useless in many situations, as it creates an extreme advantage for the offense.
