Cant invite friend

Summarize your bug It shows my friend in my xbox friends but when i go to play a friend in madden it doesnt show him there. I have the xbox one x and he has the series x could that be the problem
How often does the bug occur? Every time (100%)
Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? It may be because hes on the series x and I'm on the one x
What happens when the bug occurs? It just doesnt let me invite him
What do you expect to see? Is gamertag where it shows friends in madden

Try removing each other from both your friends lists and re-add each other, then try again.

This is correct. The Next Gen consoles can download both versions of the games. Both players must be on the same version of the game, so if you're on a PS5/Xbox One Series X/S you need to install the launch version of the game.

I play in several Madden 21 Franchises. All of the franchises were started on my xbox one. I have recently purchased an xbox series x. Can I play my franchise games on my series x against other teams in the league that are still using the xbox one? If so, must I make any changes to any settings?
Also, I have over 150 "friends" who play Madden 21. When I tried to play a friend in online head to head, only 6 friends were available to invite. All 6 have the new xbox series x. None of my xbox one friends were listed to invite to an online head to head. Is there anything I can do to my settings in madden on my series x that will give me the ability to play madden vs. xbox one friends?

@bleedgiantblue To play with friends you do need to be on the same Gen as they are so you would need to use the Gen4 version in order to play with them.

Do you see an option under My Games and Apps?

@EA_Illium I see no such option to toggle between different generations under My games & apps. Please give instructions

@Romanoodlees21 If I got it right, it is not possible to play across xbox versions/gens. anyways, I've read that it should be possible to select the version you want to play when starting the game. I do not exactly know how it works in detail (I play on PC) but you should find it somewhere in the settings.

Xbox One user cannot see friends or leagues using Xbox Series X.

While EA help desk was unable to answer this question/issue, I tested myself.
Me: Xbox Series X. Madden 21.
Friend: Xbox One. Madden 21.
Friend cannot see me in his friends list, nor any league I create; likewise, I cannot see him or his.
I downloaded Madden 21 to my previous Xbox One X: we can see each other and play/join leagues.
It appears that if you have Xbox Series X w/ Madden 21, you cannot play with others not on Xbox Series X.

@JRGin63did you try to start the game in 'Xbox One version' on your Xbox X? I'm not exactly sure how it works, but I've read that this approach should allow playing accross different xbox generations.

Found a solution / workaround:
I was able to download Madden 21 Xbox One version onto my Series X. When running that version of the game, my friend not on Series X can see me, vice versa, and we’re able to play (franchise, exhibition, etc).

Unfortunately, I think we’re confirming for sure that players must be using the same version of the game to see each other.
