Thank goodness EA is scrambling to help haha
- I've only had this problem with one downloadable roster, I tried with a different one and it worked, so I would suggest finding a different roster with the current rosters and try again. There are plenty of different 2016-17 season rosters on the community downloads

But instead of doing a player career, pick a coach on a team you don't want to use and don't care if they are no longer in the league. Then start the career at whatever point you want. When it loads in, press down on the right stick and choose create new character. Then you make the player you want, and everything should be fine. Then if you want, you can retire the coach you picked or leave it. This worked for me, hope it works for you

It did not work for me
- If you're playing with custom rosters in which the Created player cap is reached, like with the 2016-17 Rosters, you cannot create a brand new player, you can play as an existing player however.

@JD_Rage21 thanks for sharing your experience with our community.
@Phealy48, Sure, If you are playing with a created player, you will have to play as an existing player.
Cheers
