Draft Pick Trade Value

There are two issues with trades involving draft picks.

First, early in the season the draft order is significantly "out of wack."  For example, at the beginning of the next regular season, the team with the first pick in the draft the previous year was given pick #32, and the team that won the Super Bowl was given the first pick.  Therefore, early in the season it is possible for the Super Bowl winning team to trade their "first pick" to the team with the worst record and their pick #32 picking up several extra draft picks in the process. When the season is over, it is all but certain that the first round pick they receive will be early in the draft. I would suggest that for the first few (3-5) games of the season, the previous season's draft order be used.

Second, during the draft teams do not seem willing to make logical trades.  For example, a team will not trade their #15 pick in the first round for the #6 pick and a 7th round draft choice.  It is probably true that not every team will be willing to make a draft pick chart value trade, but almost every team will be willing to trade up for a "bargain."  In other words the team with the #20 pick will almost always be wiling to trade up to the #1 pick for a 3rd round pick.  NFL teams are not always willing to trade down, but every one would be willing to trade up if the price is cheap enough.  The logic currently in place will not trade up for any price.
