I've searched EA status (what a nightmare and useless), Twitter, Reddit, and other sources...
... but no one can - for certain - confirm whether Origin is down.
Did EA pull Origin in anticipation of Thursday's pre-download/release?

Servers have been up without any downtime. Are you having trouble connecting to the servers? If you're getting an error message, please let me know what it is.
@EA_Blueberry - your answer was, unfortunately, 100% incorrect/inaccurate.
There was an outage. It was resolved after 2-3 hours.
It was reported on downdetector and other services (see the spike/peak):

There were also user reports, but not widespread, on Reddit.
