Franchise cut players

After this latest debacle with the connected franchise mode, me and my friends decided to start a new connected franchise. We just made it to week 1. I am unable to play my game, as I am given the following error:
”Your roster exceeds the maximum of 53 active players. Complete your Cut Day action to release one player and update your depth chart before playing your game.”
I was at 53 players and cut one so I now have 52 players. This error is still appearing. What’s the ‘fix’ for this? Am I missing something? Or is this an EA problem?
Update: Tried signing a free agent to fill my roster with 53 players and see if that resets the roster count. Now it says cut two players. Someone from EA wanna fix this?
I've had this on 4 player controlled teams. And one of them added a player on the practice squad of another team and somehow that player shows up twice. Even cutting that player doesn't fix it.
This is also a multiple person league. I turned off the practice squad stealing in the settings when I set the league up, but it’s possible that didn’t stop somebody from signing a player on another persons practice squad. I tried resetting my Xbox and that didn’t work either. I also readjusted the settings for the minimum number of players on the roster, thinking that this might help, but no such luck.
Yeah, mine's also a multiple person one. EA's "support" said to just release and then put back all the players on the roster as if that's some kind of feasible option.
Currently my roster says i have 56 players when I actually have 53 player
