Summarize your bug Franchise mode in the 'player' role is unplayable. The scenario engine only returns negative feedback from the head coach in the preseason and therefore the game won't start your player in the regular season unless your overall rating is significantly higher than the next player in the depth chart. 'Instant Starter' also does not work at all unless you start the franchise with it enabled.
How often does the bug occur? Every time (100%)
Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? Create a franchise and change role to player. Select any active NFL QB who isn't a starter on their team's depth chart. Disable 'active starter' in franchise settings. Play a preseason game on a low difficulty (and ensure to achieve the goals set by your head coach for the game).
What happens when the bug occurs? Despite playing well, and despite having satisfied the goals set by your coach, you will receive negative feedback from your coach: "I was hoping to see some more downfield completions." As you play through the preseason, you will continue to get negative feedback from your head coach, and this will ultimately result in your player being benched during the regular season (unless your player's overall rating is significantly higher than the next player in the depth chart). Furthermore, enabling 'Instant Starter' does not work, as this option is broken after the franchise has been started.
What do you expect to see? As it was in last year's game, I expect that after a satisfactory preseason game, the scenario engine would return positive feedback dialogue from my head coach where it is appropriate. I also expect that my status on the roster will depend on my performance in the preseason. In Madden 21, a user controlled player that performed well in the preseason would be able to start over another player of a similar overall rating. Furthermore, user controlled players would be cut for poor performance in the preseason, which does not seem to be the case in Madden 22.

It is unbelievably frustrating that playing as a franchise mode in the player role seems to have been completely broken this year. The system in which players' preseason performance was taken into account seems to have been broken, likely as a result of this bug that causes coaches dialogue to be limited to negative feedback. Instant starter also seems to be broken (once the league is started), meaning it can't be used as a cheap workaround.

[EDIT: slightly modified thread title to improve clarity and visibility if other players wouöd like to report the same issue]
