How to start medically cleared injured player

I’m in a franchise in which injuries are off, but pre existing ones are on.  Dak Prescott was cleared by doctors, but is still injured for 9 weeks with a high chance of reinjury.  It gave me the option to play him or to start the backup.  I accidentally hit “start backup”.  I was able to put Prescott into the depth chart as the starter and put him on top of the roster, but when I get into a game, my backup is still starting.  Please help cause this is extremely frustrating.
