I just higlighted the card from main strategy screen and the hit square. Then remove card and it unlocks online play. 

 

 

My team adjust lineup.. then scroll to strategy highlight morph card and hit square (item options) ps4 not sure x box square equvalent .. then remove card instead of substituting it. This unlocked my online play options

I didn't think to ask if you played on the other gen version of the game to start your games, so I'll let the team know the previous message is now being overran by the Monster Morph messaging.

Hey, MUT Community.

If you're getting an error message "MUT Level Undefined Required" it could be because you have a Monster Morph item in your lineup that will need to be removed or you started a H2H season, Salary Cap Ranked, or Solo Battles on a different version of the game. For example, if you play on PS5 but then decided to play the game on PS4. If you started playing a season on the PS4 version of the game, finish that season out first. The Xbox Series X/S and PS5 consoles have an option to install both the Gen 4 and Gen 5 versions of the game.
