Madden ultimate team solo competitions requires xbox live gold?

I just want to play solo competitions against the computer with my Madden ultimate team,  but the game takes me to a screen saying that xbox live gold is required?  I can understand it for multiplaye...

    Although Solo Battles is considered an AI mode, it is on the Ultimate Team servers which requires Xbox Live Gold.

If you are playing against the AI on Fifa you can play without xbox live on FUT, so why are the servers oK with that but not the Madden game. It would make the game better if there was more game options for gamers who do not play online.
