Missing content from G.O.A.T edition
I bought and downloaded the GOAT version of Madden 18 on the PS4 and for the past 2 hours it has not let me do anything but play a play now game with the patriots and falcons i don't know what to do

As I previously mentioned you will not get the G.O.A.T content as this has been linked to your friend's account and the code can only be redeemed once:
"All items for use with one ea account in madden ultimate team game mode (“ultimate team”) within the product."

From what I gather this is the G.O.A.T Squads edition, which contains of 3 G.O.A.T Players. You can check out the details of this here: G.O.A.T SQUADS EDITION
