Re: madden 20 will not let me download community rosters for xbox one

@EA_Blueberry Want to say thanks for the hard work you do scouring these forums trying to solve people's issues.

I have had this issue on PC going back to Madden 19. So now for both Madden 19 & Madden 20 I cannot download any community files on PC.

The funny thing is I entirely rebuilt my PC and reinstalled windows during this time so... perhaps its a network issue? I'm not sure. Its very bizarre but if you have any ideas I'd love to hear them. I'd be happy to provide a packet capture or work with QA/technical support as well to help troubleshoot and provide more info.

Again this is is on PC. I've uploaded a screenshot so you can see what Madden does after I hit "view community files" or literally anything accessing the Madden Share for that matter.

I tried this as well, as detailed in an earlier post on this thread.

Step 1 - Enter the Share and Manage Files page, go into Load and Delete Files.

Step 2 - Go over to Roster tab and delete the default Madden roster from EA (do not worry, this will not affect your game in any negative way).

Step 3 - Enter the Manage Rosters page, go over to Update Rosters and click on it. A message should appear telling you that a new roster update is available. Press Download Now.

Step 4 - To check that this has worked correctly go back into Load and Delete Files, go over to Roster tab and now there should be a new file titled ULTIMATETEAM (The name is different, but this roster is identical to the default roster you just deleted... Hmm EA... funny that the name is MUT related).

  • Origin: Kelllller     (that is 5 L's)
  • Does a reinstall to the internal drive fix this? (Yes/No) --- I've only ever had it on internal drives. I recently moved it from D: to C: and reinstalled - no change.
  • Does clearing the game saved data for local and cloud for the game fix it? (Yes/No) --- I'm not sure what the Origin equivalent of this would be but I've reinstalled several times.

  • Unfortunately this didn't work for us. We have been trying to download a roster for over a week now. Very frustrating. Does anyone else have any ideas how to get the game to work?

@EA_Blueberry I checked out the post and thought it was a decent idea. However after some research looking for "manage ransomware protection" it looks like my machine/install of Windows does not have this. This could be due to what version of Windows I'm currently running (Windows 10 v1903) OR most likely due to the fact that I have Avira Antivirus and Windows Security isn't enabling those features due to my use of a separate antivirus. Here are a couple screenshots detailing that troubleshooting.

    1) A screenshot of what Windows Security should look like - https://www.windowscentral.com/sites/wpcentral.com/files/styles/xlarge/public/field/image/2018/10/virus-settings-ransomware-protection-windows-10-1809.jpg?itok=k7p1TaOa

    2) what my Windows Security looks like instead - https://i.imgur.com/zOEq0iG.png

That said, I've tried disabling this antivirus software previously while running the game and that has had no impact on my ability to access the Community Share/Madden Share.

Along Blueberry's line of thinking as far as folder permissions - I did just try it again, along with running Madden20.exe in compatibility mode - force to run as administrator, which I believe I had tried with Madden 19 but not Madden 20. The result was the same.

If we think it may be some sort of permission, antivirus or something along those lines perhaps I will try 2 additional things. 1) creating a new windows profile and try running the game under that. 2) try getting the game to run in window safe mode with networking - though I think that may be a challenge with video drivers. but its an idea nonetheless

EA_Blueberry - are there any Origin specific troubleshooting steps you can think of worth trying? I've tried reinstalling the client and running that as administrator too but neither of those helped. If you have any specific troubleshooting steps to follow please let me know.

@EA_Blueberry No. My windows profile is just "Matt" but I'm not sure how else I would check that.

That said, I did just get finished creating a new windows profile, made it an administrator, turned off windows firewall, disabled my antivirus and tried connecting to the Community Files/Madden Share again and the result is the same.

The application is running and working but its failing to connect to something and it just sits on the loading screen. The music still plays but I can't do anything so I have to use task manager to end task.

The only idea I have left is to try safe mode with networking but it feels like a long shot.

I suspect the issue is network related or origin related - any ideas on that front?

    @kelllller

Do you have the select ports opened for Madden via our Help article? If you suspect it's network related, ensuring those ports are opened won't hurt.

I'm 99% sure you're on a wired connection, is it possible to see if you can download the files off a WiFi connection? Just to test and see if there is any difference.

@EA_BlueberryI'm checking them now. I am running a desktop PC with no ability to use WIFI so a wired connection is the only option.

For others who are following along, here is what I'm doing to troubleshoot in case this helps you identify where your issues are.

    1) Go to https://www.yougetsignal.com/tools/open-ports/ which is a website that allows you to check if your ports are open against your external IP address.

*edit* In order to properly test UDP ports I had to use this link instead. I much prefer the other site since it provides you your external IP and is much faster but it did not work for testing my UDP ports. This site has a captcha and is slower but it does work and did help me narrow it down - https://www.ipvoid.com/udp-port-scan/

    2) Using the link Blueberry provided, scroll down and find your game and system (in this case, Madden 20 PC) For posterity that is
    -----UDP 443, 3126, 10000-19999
    -----80, 443, 3216, 8080, 8094, 8097, 10000-19999, 42125, 42126, 42210

    3) Open those ports/forward them on your router if you haven't already. It may be helpful to add your local machine to the DMZ - AS A TROUBLESHOOTING STEP ONLY. Leaving your machine in the DMZ permanently is not advised as this is a security risk. Putting your machine in the DMZ temporarily however should allow all port traffic and is an effective troubleshooting step for most people, if they can figure it out.

    4) I'm using a free port listening software to ensure my local PC is listening on the ports I'm opening on the router. To me this is better than running Origin+Madden20 while also troubleshooting your ports but in theory if Origin and Madden is open your machine should be listening for connections on the ports listed above. Anyway - so I open them on the router first, use the port listener to allow my PC to make connections on the port specified, and testing it against the list of ports provided by Blueberry using the Port Check Tool I listed in step 1.

*3rd edit* - Okay so I cannot post the link for the free port listener tool since that is considered advertising. Best advice I can give is to google for a port listening tool. Good luck.

*edit again* - I should also note for those trying, you can see if the port listening tool is working as expected by running cmd commands. Run cmd and run the command "netstat -ano" without quotes. This should display a list of ports open, listening, whether a connection is already established etc. It's difficult to use real time to monitor your ports but for a check like this to see if a port is actually listening on your machine its perfect. So the steps are to run the command before the listener is on - you hopefully shouldn't see the port in the list. Then run your port listener and then run netstat again - now it should show up in the list and say the port is now listening. Then if you check against it with the port check tool, it should succeed IF the ports are open on your firewall.

Sorry if that is overly complex but if you do all this correctly the Port Check tool should come back and say the port is open. And according to Blueberry's post, all those ports need to be open/reachable in order for Madden 20 to work correctly.

Blueberry - I'll report my findings shortly.

@EA_Blueberry I've tried everything I can think of on the network end. I am now pretty confident its not a network issue. For what its worth I also own the game on XB1 and am able to connect to the Madden Share on my XB1 just fine.

To summarize - I tried everything listed in my post above and checked every port both TCP and UDP. I can't possibly try every port within the 10000-19999 range but I tried multiple in that range with no issues.

Additionally, I removed my router from the equation entirely and directly connected my PC to my cable modem. The issue is still the same. Whenever I connect to the Madden Share in game on my PC, it just goes to a loading screen with music playing. The application is still running and is not locked up, but I cannot get past the loading screen.

Is there some application logging or something we can turn on somehow to help troubleshoot further? Or Origin logging perhaps?

    I'm out of other ideas.

@EA_Blueberry Sorry it took awhile to respond, long week.

I did everything I could think of with the Clean Boot. I disabled all startup programs, tasks and services using the tutorial in the link you provided. For those following along, I had trouble with my antivirus solution in particular (probably some security measure) so I had to uninstall it completely and reboot in order for the disables to take full effect. For reference that is Avira Antivirus. Its a great product but it had to be removed for this test.

Sadly after all of that there was no change.

So I went full scale and actually did what I said previously - Safe Mode with Networking. Now for everyone else - I don't know if I would recommend this. The game ran like absolute hot garbage - like 10frames/sec. But I was able to make sure I deleted the "Official" roster file and download the newest "MaddenUltimateTeam" roster file. Sadly, this did not help either. Safe Mode with Networking + Clean Boot did nothing to resolve my issues.

That narrows down my troubleshooting back to...

    1) Network environment. I tried removing my router completely before but not with Clean Boot + Safe Mode with Networking. So that's still an option next chance I get. Additionally I am going to be at a friends house next week with my PC so I am going to try connecting to the Madden Share over there to see if that helps.

    2) Complete uninstall of Origin + Madden on a new Windows Profile. This was already done between Madden 19 >> Madden 20 but perhaps may be worth trying.

    3) Complete uninstall-reinstall of Windows 10. Same deal, unlikely to help because I already did this between Madden 19 and Madden 20 but may be a last ditch effort.

Blueberry if you have any other ideas please let me know. I liked the Clean Boot idea but no luck, at least for me.
  • @kelllller @EA_Blueberry

Oh and just for posterity I just had one other idea. I confirmed with a fellow PC Madden 20 player that he was able to connect to the Madden Share. I plan to either have him login to my EA account and try accessing the Madden Share OR ask him for his EA account and try accessing the Madden Share.

It's another hail mary but keeping all options on the table at this point. My EA account has been around/migrated/changed so many times over the years it would not surprise me if something funky was up with it.
  • Have you been able to try this yet with the other account, and if so, to what result?

  • Hello. I have been dealing with the same issue. I have tried everything that you have listed above and I still have no solution. I have been on live chat with EA help and have tried and exhausted all recommended options. EA HELP recommended I add my input to this forum and to treat this issue as a bug.

    hope this gets solved,

    Andrew

    Community manager,

I have tried this fix on PC and it does not work. I tried this April 3, 2020.
