Hey!
You've been able to play Online H2H against a friend in 1v1. That should be available again. I haven't heard of including additional players online to make it 2v2. You can play up to 4 people offline on the same console though.
The Yard is a newer game mode where you can play with and against multiple friends. That's more of the backyard style football though and not the traditional normal rosters you're referencing.
