Re: User Catches
Contrary to what die hard Madden players desired, in the past few years it was possible to perform a user catch simply by holding the button. This practice did not require a sense of timing nor the skill associated with making a catch in real life... Fortunately, Madden 20 made a change. This year, in order to make a user catch, you must time the press of the button according to the arrival of the ball and the type of catch you are trying to make. Since you're on XBox, I'll list the Xbox control then the PS4 controls.
The aggressive catch (Y/Triangle) is best preformed earlier than the ball's arrival, about 3-5 yards away, since the receiver is likely to jump to make the catch. Be sure to hold the button until the catch is complete or the defenders will knock the ball out with either the swat or play receiver button.
The possession catch (A/X) is best preformed when your receiver is near the sidelines or when you're likely to take a big hit. This button can be pressed when the ball is still about a yard or two away from the receiver, but you won't be able to pick up any yards after the catch as the receiver will go down immediately.
The Run After Catch, or RAC, button (X/Square) should be pressed when your receiver has room to run or you desire that he maintain his speed to avoid getting caught by a defender. Similar to the possession catch, press the RAC button while the ball is close; within 1-3 yards. Then get ready to run! Be careful though, using the RAC button when there is traffic will undoubtedly result in the defender knocking the ball out.
I recommend PRACTICE MODE on OFFENSE ONLY to get the hang of making all of these catches. Be sure to switch to ALL-MADDEN to make sure you get the least amount of help from the CPU when you switch to the receiver to make the catch.
Hope this helps,
Later
