To all: Madden 15 AI defense and gameplay/issues
My version of the game is xbox360 but others should read this also because it's about AI gameplay. I cannot tell you if others are having these kinds of issues with the game on other consoles but these are issues with mine. And now I've done even more thorough testing and actually have results that may help EA with this. The issue is about defense, on my team and also the AI team. (this is not online) The AI plays sorry on defensive pass plays on either side of the ball, mine or the comps. The comp will pretty much do whatever it wants "passing wise" against my defense and I can likewise do just about whatever I want against their defense "passing wise". I began then to test sliders and difficulty settings. And for those who don't know they can easily do this "better" in practice mode, without going back and forth with the loading screen, you can! 😉 I would like others help, even on other consoles! So I know all around if it's different on another console! It won't take long to do and is quite easy. Follow these exact steps. You can actually sit back and "watch" the difference. "except when you're on offense, it expects you to play" Goto practice mode. Choose normal. (regardless of what teams you like please still choose what I used, for a more accurate test result) Left side Bills, Right side Dolphins (home team). Accept teams, skill level choose rookie (this can be changed IN GAME!) leave other settings as is. Click Ready. When you get to "ingame" practice to pick plays (on my version of the game) at the moment choose anything for offense and anything for defense, doesn't matter (it's pretty much just to skip through this to get what we want). At the end of the play when you're tackled press start. Goto practice options and then choose flip sides. You (the Dolphins should now be on defense) From here we'll choose a play "by formation" Then choose "4-3". Then choose "stack" right underneath the 4-3 menu. After, press down once, on the left side of the plays you should see "cover 2 man". For Bills offense choose "by formation" goto "strong" and all there is to choose from is "pro", choose it. Press down once and you should see a play on the left called "slants" Choose it. From here you mainly just "WATCH" the gameplay. You do NOTHING! just watch receivers and dbs! and how the play unfolds. Also, please goto your "settings" and game options. Make sure skill level is rookie (it should be right now). Other things below it I don't care for, except for game speed put on "slow" and threshold leave alone at 50, don't really need to touch it per this test please. (you can later if you'd like, I find that it doesn't make much of a difference) But for this tests sake leave it at 50. Also player and cpu skill are all at 50. Nothing needs to be done. It's a pretty simple test 🙂 Now just sit back and "watch" how the game plays out. At this setting you'll see lots of different results. Many sacks, possibly completions. etc....but this is my concern that I ask others to look for. How IS the defense playing? Do the DBs keep up with the WRs? In my game the defense plays pretty darn well! It may not be "realistic yet" but the defense is pretty tough! In mine are lots of sacks, VERY good coverage, etc...This is what I'm looking for, a good AI defense. Once you feel like you gathered enough data on "how it plays". Press start, goto game options, settings, game options and change skill level to "pro". Pretty simple, 1 little notch!!! Now watch the gameplay!!! In my game all of a sudden DBs lag behind the WRs, on BOTH sides! And of course the QB doesn't really have issues at all now to complete a pass. You'll notice (if yours plays like mine) alot of completions. At any difficulty settings besides rookie you'll get this kind of reaction. (please don't mess with sliders, do on your own after finishing this test and have the results) This needs to be specific. (You'll see why later) When you feel you get the picture how things are going per play. Next step!
Press start and quit practice. Once again then choose normal but this time we're going to be the Bills (left side) and home team Dolphins (right side). Accept teams. Set difficulty to rookie again. When we get to the practice field, we're going to be offense for the Bills, so make sure it's set-up that way, if not, there's instructions on how to flip sides up there^. Also again make sure we're on Rookie setting and slow speed mode, everything also should still be all 50s. For the Bills we're going to choose the same offensive play (Strong/Pro/down one to "slants") and also the same for Defense of the Dolphins (4-3/stack/down one to "Cover 2 Man") But this time we're going to play the game. You should be able to easily pick apart their defense with this pass play. (as per my game) I'm able to easily pass to WRs, both sides, almost whenever I want too, not much pressure at all, etc...You should see that there's not really good coverage at all, they lag behind etc...Now go and change your difficulty setting to All-Madden NOTE: this changes your speed setting! so change it back to slow! Back out and play again....You should now be able to tell it's more difficult to pass upon the defense, coverage is alot better and sometimes you may even feel pressured. But "in my opinion" it's not as great as the rookie defense from above with the first trial (when we first started)^. But it's still an improvement in order to play the game and have it be some fun!
So to EA, is there a way to (when I'm on defense) make the "players team" play like I'm on rookie difficulty? And then when I'm on offense, to make the AI play with a similar defense? Slightly better than the All-Madden difficulty above^?
To all who read please post your results from this test, especially from other consoles. I would assume all 360 players would have the same results, so knowing if other consoles are different would be appreciated!
Also, why not mess around with sliders? I have, believe me, all over the place. QB Acc, WR Catch, Fumbles, and Tackling seem to be the only responsive sliders (on my console) that make an impact to the game.
Well what if that teams defense stinks compared to the other? I've also tried the above test being the Bills defense and Dolphins offense. The results are the same. Regardless of slider settings, the only real nice impact you'll get is from changing the difficulty setting. But of course others with different consoles, (if you don't mind taking the time beyond what I've asked) please go ahead and mess with them and post the results! Of course I'd like to know if things are different!
Beyond all this^, this is my own testing of the game to just try to enjoy it. I've spent my hard worked time in exchange for entertainment in this game for myself and I find it lacking. Also if any others know how to get around or combat this and maybe figured out things I don't know (I feel I dinked around in this game pretty well enough though) please post also.
Thanks to all who read and take the time for this, it's greatly appreciated by I hope not only me but to EA also.
