I just got off the phone with EA support about this exact issue. The gobbledegook email address is an anonymous one that EA.com generated for your child's Xbox live account. EA ignores the email associated with kids Xbox Live Account. To be fair EA might not even get the kids email address from Microsoft for privacy reasons.
You can click reset password there, and it will send it to your parent EA account email address, which is just weird to click forgot password on an email address I don't own or have ever seen for an account that I did not know existed.
Now my problem is my son has Xbox Live Gold to play online but not me. Which leaves me with the following question to the community here is if I buy Xbox Live Gold for my parent account can he play with his gamer tag and his friends or will it still be blocked by EA unfinished/annoying Xbox Live support.
EA games are kind of off the table for a while this is just annoying. Online friend gaming should work like Minecraft if you want kids to play your games. Or maybe EA will just blame Microsoft, either way, I am out $60 bucks since I can't return the disc. We are learning modern EA / Origin is not a game ecosystem that is friendly and helps us play games easily with his friends.
