Browncoats
Maybe I am just paranoid, but as I played through Andromeda I got the feeling that there was a civil war coming, Independent Browncoats vs. Nexus Alliance. There are all these little discussions and ...

Prodromos is running unsanctioned covert ops (Liam's mission), trading/establishing diplomatic relations with illegal/rebel colonies (Advent and arguably New Tuchanka and Kedara), harboring exiles (Vetra's mission, at least one side mission, and arguably Liam's mission), harboring fugitives (the Three Sabres guy, the pregnant doctor, and, possibly not illegal but definitely violating Addison/Tann's decisions, having the pathfinder jump the queue for their people. It all benefits the outposts but ignores/breaks Nexus rules. Arguably, even if you get outposts, New Tuchanka and Sloane's (and possibly Reyes') Kedara are still fairly hostile to the Nexus, and the Voeld outpost is trading with Kedara while it is still openly hostile to the Nexus.👿:eahigh_file:

I assumed you were talking about groups like advent who frankly did not seem that friendly. 'Stay away from our boarders and there won't be an issue' doesn't exactly inspire confidence.
The only time we meet Advent in person it is a handful of people on a scouting mission investigating why their water supplies are being disrupted, possibly due to the architect or Ryder/Prodromos cracking open/drawing from underground rivers. They are willing to trade, but don't want to be ruled by the Nexus or have people trespassing/invading their land. While the individuals we encounter are all apparently human, so are 50-75% of all Milky Way people we meet, so we really don't know anything about the nation's racial composition or immigration rules, although there is some indication from your discussion that indicates they may have established their colony before Prodromos, so they are probably pretty intrepid. I will be very amused if they turn out to be led by David Crockett and Dani Boone😉

The British Empire contained people of pretty much every color, race, and creed, founded lots of colonies, and fostered huge amounts of trade. It was also extremely mercantilistic, highly paternalistic, and fairly racist, kind of like the Nexus Council or members thereof. At least half the Nexus council is actively hostile to Kedara and New Tuchanka, blocking shipments to them unless someone like Kesh or Spender can have them smuggled off the station, although the outposts are willing to establish trading routes on their own. Finally, the stated purpose of the colonies/AVP is providing support and supplies to the Nexus, allowing it to continue growing as the main political, economic, and population center for the Milky Way people and eventually the whole cluster.👿😮

Spender was the reason the Krogans got exhiled in the first place and he gets put into jail for his actions while we are actively trying to repair the damage done there.
It is true some of the species have a very dubious relationship with each other, just as some human races in todays times do. There are many - nexus included who are actively trying to make those relationships better. Go splitting all that up its only going to get worse, not better. Everyines best chance is the other way around. To keep working on making the nexus and diploamcy between the races better. Not taking drastic steps that will worsen it all.

You can exile him too. Nevertheless, if the Nexus is so interested in unity, inclusiveness, and trade, then why is Spender the only one willing to trade with Kedara until we get an outpost there, and why is Kesh the only one willing to trade with New Tuchanka until we get an outpost there?

Some of the most prejudiced people in the game running the Nexus. There is a good chance that they will make those relationships you are looking for worse, which is one of the ideas behind the premise of this thread.
Also, while many people believe that unity is the way to make a better future, there are many others who believe that a better future can be found with independence rather than unity at any cost. The US is a close friend and ally of the UK, but I doubt anyone believes that the US would count itself better off as part of the UK. Many nations around the world are willing to be friends or allies of the US, but do not wish to be part of it. Only a year ago the UK decided it would have a better future away from the EU. For nearly 7 decades Taiwan has pursued a better future away from China. The list goes on and on.
The point is that we have no real way to prove that joining everything together into one country will provide a better future, although there is a decent pool of evidence that indicates it does not. However, independence does not preclude alliance, and it was alliances of independent countries that won WWI, WWII, and the Cold War
