Characters and non-static environment objects turn black and pixelated.

Once I enter Peak 15 in Mass Effect 1, my squad, the enemies, and non-static environment objects turn black and pixelated. I have read that there is a config option to turn the game into unlit mode, ...

This is caused by an incompatibility issue with all AMD FX processors. There is no fix.

The workaround you mentioned is a console command. The dev console has to be enabled in the config file. There's a desciption under this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4cHF_2VmGhw

Being a Mass Effect junkie myself, I specifically bought an Intel board and processor for my newest PC. There seem to be no compatibility issues there.
