Re: Mass Effect Andromeda directX crash

@spareme12

Are the error messages the same as mentioned in the OP of this thread?

Please create a DxDiag in text file format, also go to your Reliability monitor (Press the windows key and "R" at the same time and copy or type "perfmon /rel" (without the quotes) in > ENTER and look if it has MEA entries.

If yes double click at the last one, copy it to the clipboard, (Bottom left corner) save it to a text file and load it up together with the DxDiag.

You can do that with the "choose file" button at the bottom right corner of the reply window.

That is a great question! As it turns out, they are not. I had multiple tabs open while trying to fix this issue and posted on the wrong thread.

Here is the error message I receive.

    DirectX Error
    DirectX function "Dx11Renderer::tryMap" failed with
DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_REMOVED ("The video card has been physically removed from the system, or a driver upgrade for the video card has ocurred.").

I have attached a text version of the dxdiag.

I'm sorry, I do not fully understand what a MEA entry is. I searched but could not find an answer. Here is a screen of the reliability history.

Attached is the text of the last two entries, the Windows video hardware error and the Radeon stopped working, if that is what you are asking for.

MEA = Mass Effect Andromeda error.

Please preform a clean installation of your GPU driver:

    • Download the newest driver for your GPU from AMD.

    • Download DDU:

    • run DDU in save mode. (read the guide here)

    • shut down your virus scanner. (go offline if it bothers you to be online without a virus scanner)

    • Install the GPU driver.

    • Reboot > Test.

I performed the driver removal with DDU, then reinstalled the graphics driver. An interesting note, since my last posting I have been rereading the thread that started with the same error message as mine, https://answers.ea.com/t5/Technical-Issues/Mass-effect-Andromeda-direct-x-error/td-p/5941560 . There are a few other tips that I have tried, such as,

setting Andromeda exe. to run as admin

raising page file to 50 gigs

    capping FPS to 60

deleting the 4 options files in the game save folder

setting fans to run at 100% ingame

sound settings to stereo (already set that way)

full screen to borderless windowed (have not tried yet)

All of these still hit the 20 minute wall and then crash to the renderer map error.

After running DUU and reinstalling the driver I again set the FPS to 60 and the fans to 100%, along with the reduced clock and memory speeds, all in the Radeon software profile for Andromeda. THIS time, the fans kicked in, hard, which they did not ever do before, even though I was always sure to hit the Apply button and was sure the fan setting was set to ON. The game only ran for a few seconds before crashing, but this time I received the Radeon Wattman error. I went back and set the fans back to auto, and launched again. I still hit the 20 minute mark and crashed, but this time the error message was different. Now it is the create texture error, not the renderer trymap error.

I am not sure I can call this progress, but it is different.

Something to consider which may have absolutely nothing to do with your issue, but the graphics card is also funneling sound....if for some reason your sound system crashes, it may also take out your graphics....so if you have access to a cheaper pair of headphonnes that comes with the USB plugin, you may want to see if using an alternate sound system changes anything.  Also your bios for your MoBo is I think from 2013, maybe an upgrade to it would help??

Thank you for the reply. I updated my BIOS, but it appears to be the same version.

I am using a 55'' tv for my monitor and have an HDMI cable attached to it. The audio currently comes from the television, so I understand what you are saying. I do have a set of speakers I have not hooked up yet because I need to come up with some stands or shelves for the rear speakers. The tv only has an audio out so I cannot just run a cable from the pc to the tv for audio.

OK, set the page file to 32680 minimum and maximum, but set it to your SSD.

The Page File is the place where RAM data is stored if there is not enough physical RAM available. (in simple terms)  It makes no sense to set it to a hard drive that is considerably slower than the other.

I know there's a lot of talk about the page file shortening the life of SSDs. it does not, at least not significantly, the SSD will probably outlast the rest of your system in any case, especially because you have 16 GB of physical RAM and the system will hardly use the page file in normal operation.

Run the Windows System File Checker Sfc /scannnow and post the concluding message.

Furthermore, set the resolution (Windows and Game) to 1920x1080 > test.

If that still not works, I would like to have a look at what happen in your system at the time of the crashes:

    • Download and run HWInfo64 > sensors only.
    • Click on the sheet with the green cross (logging) > give the file a name and save it.
    • Wait 5 minutes and then start the game > play until the game crashes > load the HWinfo logfile up to a free file hoster and post the link here.

😃 Probably the most creative thanks post I ever got. 👍

The new installation might have helped too, but the important point is that the game works.

And because I drive a BMW, I like the mouse sound idea, Bratwurst und Bier are always a good thing anyway. 🙂
