Following are a few more comments about the current gameplay:
1. As I have previously indicated, attempting to play defense is pointless with the current gameplay.
a. The AI basically never misses.
b. Particularly unreasonable is the AI's shooting percentage in "scoring with contact" situations. If an AI player gets into the paint and shoots, their shot goes in unless it is blocked, the extent to which the shot is challenged does not materially decrease the AI shooting percentage, even if there is contact from the defender.
c. Making point (b) above especially ludicrous, the AI can overpower EVERY player on any of my lineups, pushing them into the paint. Once there, they never miss. It doesn't matter if I anticipate the push and do my best keep the AI player out of the paint; they simply push me into the paint and then score.
d. Making point (d) above even MORE ludicrous, is that if you try the same tactic against the AI, they steal the ball; this is a completely one-sided strategy.
e. The newest gameplay update has created a new problem; my opposing center never starts in the center of the court just in front of the rim where a center will usually position himself if he is trying to protect the rim. As a result, if the AI tries to drive the lane, they push my guard out of the way before my center even has time to play defense. It is completely absurd, and it didn't used to be nearly this big a problem.
f. The AI still gets way too many offensive rebounds, even when their rebounding stats are far worse than mine.
g. The AI also collects disproportionate amount (around 80%) of loose balls (which occur after I block a shot, or after I dislodge the ball from the dribbler). Making this worse, I oftentimes make a good defensive play and block a shot in the paint.. That blocked shot will go DIRECTLY to another AI player who is outside the 3pt line and wide open. That player will then shoot and make a three, so the shot I blocked will actually BENEFIT the AI.
2. The AI has always made an unreasonable portion of shots (at least 80%), but the shooting percentage is even worse with the current gameplay.
a. Part of this is due to points (1c) and (1e) above.
b. This is especially true of fadeaway or turnaround shots, which SHOULD be much less effective than face-up or open shots. Unfortunately, any time that I force a player to pick up his dribble with his back facing the basket, the subsequent turnaround fadeaway shot goes in. Every single time. It's completely absurd.
3. A couple of complaints about the game that are not specifically related to the new gameplay.
a. The buzzer beater skill should only work if the shooting player is 30-feet or fewer from the basket. It is completely absurd that, if you score with 0.4 seconds left in a qtr, the AI will inbound to a PG with the BB skill and make the BB shot from 3/4 court every time.
b. The game should NEVER pass to a player on your team that is standing out of bounds. First of all, no player should ever be running up the court outside the boundary lines. Second, if a player did that, no player would ever be stupid enough to pass to them.
c. No player should ever shoot at the wrong side of the backboard. This is another thing that would NEVER happen in a real basketball game.
d. The gameplay in Showdown should be identical to the gameplay in league tournaments (1v1), but it clearly isn't. I routinely crush the AI in Showdown, making 80% or so of my shots. If I play using exactly the same techniques/strategies in 1v1, however, I routinely miss half of my shots. It just doesn't make any sense. The gameplay should the same all the time in all game modes.
e. The slow-motion sequences add no value to the game; they simply make game qtrs take longer and make the gameplay more difficult when a slow-motion sequence results in a missed shot. It is very hard to try and direct your player to a loose ball during a slow-motion sequence.
f. It makes no sense when EA releases a new player with a high OVR that has worse stats than a current player with a lower OVR. The player OVR should reflect how effective a player will be during the gameplay.
These are all the things that come to mind right now, but I'm sure that I missed some. I will try to add other complaints here as I encounter them, and I encourage other players to do the same.
