Just throwing in my two cents. I play the PS5 version of the game and while I haven't noticed any general advantage or disadvantage playing against teams on either console, there are definitely games where I see things similar to what other posters in this thread have mentioned. Opponents way faster in striaght-line footraces than they should be based on their attributes, battles for loose pucks always going the other way, etc
My suspicion is it's connection based. The handful of times I've reached out to opponents after games like this I've found they're all running with sub-10 ms pings while my teammates and myself have 20-25 ms ping. I would hope the game wouldn't so sensitive to response times that such a small difference would give such a large advantage, but it kind of seems that way. Of course this could all be confirmation bias on my part and there's nothing to it.
The game itself is the same but certain consoles seem to just S-T-R-U-G-G-L-E. As I mentioned before, I'm pretty much penalized for using a PS5 to play the PS4 version - I mean, it still takes me a whopping 1:45 to reach a useable menu state in EASHL from a cold boot and even then I'm waiting forever for my buddy to show up. In-game I'm blasted by dozens of seconds worth of "syncing" after plays as everyone else catches up.
There is a very distinct advantage when doing a faceoff against someone who I assume uses PS4 or Xbox Series s - Their C and my winger buddy don't even react for at least a half second after the puck is dropped.
My current connection through a 100ft cable is 20 with my friend normally around 30-40 - Still green numbers and manageable, but still a massive difference for a game as 'twitchy/reactionary' as NHL. I don't believe there is any brand specific advantage, just a processing issue (another reason why I won't want to play against any PCers if they do miraculously get a version).
This is good though - Something tangible we can realistically fix for next year
