They've been this bad for at least 3 years now.
*insert yearly "I think they should take a year off and completely overhaul the series" comment*
Just gonna drop this here:

At least blue accidentally bumped in to him and the goalie gave minimal effort to slide over - if this was EASHL, the defender would have dove out of the way and the G would have been glued to the post
- PlayoffError3 years agoHero@KidShowtime1867 Defense isn't crippled in this game at all. Nope. Everything's fine.....
The really sad thing is that even if you were able to switch to Landeskog immediately I'm not sure there would be anything you could do here. Stick lift from there is likely a penalty. He's too close for DSS or poke checks to be effective and Forseberg probably bounces off a hit.
You would need to have switched the split second he starts to move to the right to have any chance.- KidShowtime18673 years agoHero

When/IF you manage to time a player switch so that you're in control of a player that is literally on-top of a puck carrier, there is currently no penalty-averse action you can take. In these scenarios, you should be able to lightly tap stick lift, without risk of a penalty, to at least disrupt the possession and recreate what it's like to have someone right in your bubble while controlling the puck. It shouldn't result in a penalty 9/10 times. This just allows the puck carriers to unrealistically dominate the game.

In NHL 22 - Landeskog's body positioning would've knocked the puck loose but in NHL 23 it appears everything is favoring the puck carrier including an almost complete absence of incidental contact.

Yeah - at the very least turning incidental contact way higher for online play would help this. Even if the AI stays super passive and doesn't take any defensive action, the puck carrier would still have to avoid running into him or his stick, and can't act if he doesn't exist.
I wonder if it would be a good thing for NHL to have a teammate press button like FIFA, to add a skill element to using AI help and to make it feel less like it's 5 on 1. Of course it would have to be implemented in a way where it has to be used with good timing and not overly used.

So they’ll fix it with a tuner now or in nhl 24?

We've been reviewing this, but need to see it from a better angle. It's not definitive that the stick passes through Landeskog's body. It could have stayed in front of him. Which would make sense why the puck didn't come loose. Just keep it in mind going forward when submitting clips like this.

It's not so much about the stick going through anybody - it's the lack of any action whatsoever by Landeskog that should be looked at.

Yes. I get that too, but just saying to keep this in mind with clips in the future. The AI are specifically muted in HUT to help curb skill zoning. Which, I know most everyone is aware of. If this is happening in modes outside of HUT, it would be good to see video of that.
- BoredJason133 years agoSeasoned Veteran@KidShowtime1867 They gotta get this type of goal out of the game. Yes it does happen in the NHL but it doesn’t happen every game. Plus when it’s someone’s complete offensive strategy it becomes so annoying so quickly

This right here. All you have to do is hit LT or protect puck butting or hold puck out a certain way and the game mechanics break and now you can’t poke/take puck, have a collision etc. players on offense getting rewarded for bad offense ):
