Created players without helmets and goalies wearing vintage masks. If those options won't be possible in NHL 23, I'll never buy the game.
I think this would be great if there were a vintage season mode. Otherwise, helmetless players don't really fit into the modern day NHL. We'll just have to wait and see if anything is announced about this.
- olavi43 years agoSeasoned Adventurer@EA_Aljo I don't care about modern hockey. There are alumni teams and alumni players without helmets, alumni goalies wearing vintage masks. Please let us create our vintage teams with unhelmeted players, just like alumni teams.

I think the problem is that this game is focused on modern hockey. Which is why the name always reflects the current year. Hopefully someday there will be a game focused on those vintage years of hockey you love. I'm not saying we won't have these options at some point. I just wanted to give some additional information on why you don't see a lot of aspects of vintage hockey reflected in our modern take on it.
- olavi43 years agoSeasoned Adventurer@EA_Aljo Come on now. There is roster sharing, and people share vintage rosters all the time: original six, 1970s, WHA etc. We just want them as realistic as possible. We want to create Orr, Esposito, Hull and many others without helmet just like Gordie Howe and many other alumni players now. It has nothing to do with modern hockey or the game title. Our hobby is to create vintage rosters and share them.

@EA_AljoThat's WHY we want to be able to create helmetless players, so we can recreate vintage seasons and historic rosters.
We will be able to do a 6 team franchise mode in NHL 23, that means we could create any original 6 season roster and play through a franchise mode. Awesome, but how much fun would it be if all the players has to wear helmets and the goalies in modern masks? Not so much IMO.- EA_Aljo3 years ago

I definitely think it would be great if we supported vintage tams better. We'll have to see what happens. Thanks for all the feedback!
- hoserthehorrible3 years agoRising Novice@EA_Aljo Players without helmets are already provided by EA in some of the alumni players. Vintage goalie masks are also already provided in some of the alumni players.
I don't think anyone is asking for anything that isn't supported in the game already. We just want the ability to assign these options to our created players is all.
If they are already in the game then why not allow the users of the game to do the same thing?

I appreciate your response,
I agree with all the comments but for the time being it would be very beneficial for EA and awesome for us if EA would focus some on revamping the creation zone. Giving us consumers the ability to at least create our own throwback teams. These alumni teams are redundant (Stu Grimson is on every alumni team) and missing a lot of great players like Paul Kariya, Russ Courtnall, Alexander Mogilny, Pavel Bure…Sergei Fedorov. I’ve been rockn with you guys since NLHPA 93 and I understand, well at least I think you guys are pushing the CHEL mode more so it can be a solid Esports contender??🤷🏽♂️.
p.s.
my birthday is coming up hook a brotha upand give me some more logos to create teams
i made 34 created teams this year to mimic College hockey
you want to see them?

@Phaissnlife2Russ Courtnall is in the game. Have you joined our NHL Discord group?

@EA_AljoThanks for the replies.
I think there's a big divide in the NHL gaming community between Online vs Offline players.- KlariskraysNHL3 years agoHero+@Atishksingh The problem was a decade ago game development was cheaper too. FIFA sells like 8mil copies a year give or take a mil or 2. NBA and Madden probably at least in the 4 to 5mil copies sold if not higher for NBA. Thing is NHL just is a niche sport compared to those worldwide games that are easier to play in the real world. I think even back in the day NHL maybe sold 1.5mil copies at best ever.
It's just like the pro athletes. NBA, NFL, Euro star players get paid way more than the NHL's best.
So when you take all that into account you can definitely see who is gonna have a small budget and much much smaller developer team. EA knows that investing more resources into the series isn't gonna make sales go up enough to make up for the cost. The reason the online modes get the attention is because of Esports and it gets the NHL name out there advertised. They don't want to look super silly when it's streamed for prizes and huge issues happen.
For many people the PS360 era of sports games were the peak when it came to FIFA, Madden, NCAA, and NHL. NBA2K is the only one that got better... so much better they embarrassed to quit making NBA Live.- 3 years ago
@KlariskraysNHLThat definitely was the peak era. I do wonder if eventually some of these niche sports titles like NHL just become online games instead of on game consoles.
I think many gamers from that era are also realizing that itll never be like that again anytime in the near future. Sports games will probably continue to just cater to the online community. Many of us that are late 30s or older are having to just deepen our own rosters for which ever NHL game you put the work into and just continue from there.

That is not a reasonable take on the situation. This is a quick 10 minute change being requested, it has no negative effects on anyone, and people here are stating that the one place that it could affect anyone other than the person utilizing it - ONLINE - it is already available. This seems to be the takeaway by EA over the years, but it is patronizing - it is stating that EA could provide something in demand, easily, but knows better than the consumer and so will deny it. This would make sense if there was the potential for real world harm - if they demand the actual NHL have helmetless players there is a good reason to deny the customer because real people can get severely hurt and die. However, there is no rational reason to believe this would translate into real world harm since it is virtual and we do not know these virtual players to be sentient nor alive.
The sensible thing is to make all players default to having a helmet, but allow the user to remove them. If horribly desired, EA can go above and beyond and increase the potential injuries to the helmetless players, both in frequency and severity, though no one is asking for that.- Juhani_91_913 years agoSeasoned Ace@VeronicatheCD Good point. It's weird why EA Sports can't add possibility create helmetless players. Need remember, that they haven't added all skater - and goalie gears to game during last two years Okay Covid-19 could be reason, but would be nice ,if they now could add those to game. Also is weird, that they haven't added "Reverse retro "- jerseys yet to the team creation.

I get what you're saying, but this would not be a quick, 10 minute addition. Regardless, I don't have any new information on this. I've passed on the feedback and will let you all know if I have any news.
- 3 years ago@EA_Aljo Well, that is something that I would need to have explained to me for me to believe. The helmets and players are already scripted separately, which is why we can see our players without helmets at times:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5nireOZxAlU
You slap in a button for the no sign, circle with a slash through it, that you already use for other things in the game (see mouthguards, visors, etc), have that return a value of 0, and then throw in a
if (player.helmetoption != 0) {
before the script to make them skate off the ice if they lose their helmet. Of course, you add the closing bracket at the end of that script. For someone familiar with the code, I cannot see it taking them the full 10 minutes.
- KlariskraysNHL3 years agoHero+@VeronicatheCD It might not be in EA's hand at all to make it happen. Like the year they said legends would be in some offline mode and then weren't and an answer was never given as to why. Probably means they can't say blame the real NHL.
EA might get licenses to the NHL and brands but it doesn't mean they don't have limitations to them that they can't mention.
