Cross-generation play

Is there a reason on a technical level why this isn't feasible? It would completely close the gap and bring all players of the game together. I don't want to speculate it's because EA wants to continue selling $100 X-Factor editions (which the dual entitlement price is just absurd anyway) to players that want access to both, but there are games out there with heftier gameplay that offer this and NHL benefitting from it would be an understatement.

  • @Jammalammalam Old consoles are being phased out by pretty much all of the game companies. Having PS4 and Xbox One with the others is nothing but a hindrance to future progress. They should have already made the last gen consoles legacy and focused on what really matters and that is the current gen.

@KlariskraysNHL There's still a heck of a lot more PS4's and Xbox Ones out there than there are PS5's and Xbox Series.

The new CoD coming out this year can support PC, XB1, PS4, PS5, and Xbox S/X w/ full cross-platform/cross-generation play to maximize profit AND population.

@Jammalammalam Which says to me there is nothing special in CoD MW3 and not progressing the game into the future. NHL doesn't need an anchor holding them down they need to bring game tech up by offering things like 120fps, decreasing loading times with the nvmes, pushing graphics higher. A small team like NHL having to worry about if the old gen runs properly with the current consoles isn't worth the time and effort imo. We're like 3 to 4yrs away from the new next-gen consoles and EA Sports in general haven't upped their game in the slightest in terms of utilizing the current gen hardware.

@KlariskraysNHL You know what? That's fair, Follisimo. I get it 100% when it's put like that. Especially since we've already been playing in-generation for 23.
  • @Jammalammalam I've played both since some friends still only have ps4. It does feel like the ps4 version is less responsive and I feel my passes are slightly less likely to get to where I want them to. I'm not sure if it's all in my head or not but the PS5 version does seem to run better. We're almost halfway through the PS5 life cycle (I think) and still supporting PS4, it is time to move on and have everyone get the new system so games can reach their full potential and devs can focus on just the 2 systems. It does suck we can't bring the communities together for this year though.
