Cross Play Private Games With Friend

I have a PS5 and a friend has an X-Box S. We would like to play against each other in private games, but haven't been able to work out how to do this. According to the 1.3 patch notes, "For example, now if you’re on a PS5 you can match up against your Xbox Series X|S friends and vice versa."

We've tried going to the Play Online Versus and searching for each other's user names, but that's not turning up. Is there another method to make this work or will we have to wait for NHL 24 to cross play private games against each other?

Thanks.

  • I bought the game only to play NHL against my friend (PS4/XBOX one) on a regular one on one matchup.

So you are basically saying that the below statement that was made by EA is wrong?

    >>So starting November 17, match up with your cross-platform friends and experience hockey that’s greater together in NHL 23.<<

This is a quote from the FAQ page made by EA. How else would I “match up” with my friend if I cannot invite them?

    Thanks.

  • Yes, it seems strange for EA to word their descriptions of cross platform play as "matching up with friends" without being able to invite them to a private game. I find it hard to believe that they able to put together cross play for all those different modes but not at all with the Online Versus mode. Can anyone else confirm that cross play using Online Versus is a bust this year?
