Gamertag - I Sublimity I
I'm sure there is another forum post on similar issues to what I have been experiencing the past week or so, but I wanted to put this out there and add some of my findings/observations.
For the past week or so, WoC has been extremely slow to load in to and often results in disconnects/errors:
- 5+ (at best) minutes of loading after selecting 'World of Chel' from the main game menu.
- The loading screen showing an NHL player and their X-Factor often remains on the screen for an excessive amount of time.
- When it gets past the screen mentioned above, it moves to the screen where it shows your player skating up and standing there, nothing else (menu options, rewards, challenges, etc.) and excessive amount of loading time is seen here as well.
- Once everything finally loads in, it is incredibly slow and after a minute or so, it will either error with something very generic (World of Chel has errored), a failed to retrieve data/information error, or an error saying you have lost connection to the EA NHL servers. When this happens, you are kicked out to the main game menu where you repeat the process as mentioned in all of the points above.
Additional findings/observations:
- The issue appears to be far worse during peak times, slowly gets better as the evening gets later (still not great and nothing I have ever experienced before up until the past few days).
- If you are lucky enough to make it through and load into a lobby to select your position and loadout (all game modes), it appears to be smooth sailing from here as I have not experienced disconnects or latency issues during gameplay (this is fine as far as I can tell). It also appears to let you in to Free Skate without issues if you make it through.
- A couple times, a quick error message when loading issues occur will pop up at the top of the screen and say something along the lines of an issue with the season 6 banner?
- I have experienced the issue of my player loadouts being wiped and set to the default 6 foot 200 pound Two-Way Forward for all 10 loadouts.
- Disabling cross-play does not appear to help the loading issues.
- I do not have any hockey bags for player or club that need to be opened, I cleared those out.
- I collected all pending awards from the Challenges section.

- I removed my custom gamerpic and set to a standard/default one Xbox offers. Did not fix issue.
- I completely power cycled my Xbox and Fiber modem. Did not fix issue.
- I am on a wired connection. Did not fix issue.
- I cleared the alternate MAC address and rebooted Xbox. Did not fix issue.
- I completely factory reset my Xbox and reinstalled the game, also clearing saved game data. Did not fix issue.
- This issue appears to be localized to trying to access WoC, no other games or services using internet in my house have issues currently.
- I have a 1GB AT&T Fiber connection to my home.
- My location is Wichita, Kansas.
EA, please look into this issue as I firmly believe it is something going on between ISPs and the NHL servers. From reading Reddit posts and other forum topics on this same issue other people are experiencing the past week or so, I am wondering if this is a regional problem as it is appearing to not be reported as widespread. Quite a few people have said their location is in the midwest (Kansas, Missouri, etc.) that are reporting this issue.
I typically am willing to let these issues resolve themselves over time, as they tend to often do, but this prevented me from playing in an important playoff game last night for my 6s LG (League Gaming) team. Fortunately, my fill-in was able to get the job done, but it was still sad and frustrating to be sidelined as I often look forward to playing these matches each week.
If you need any additional info that can help the process, just let me know. Hopefully this can be resolved in the near future (before my next round of playoff games in a few days). 🙂
