ok that's a good theory but why do other games run fine on the same connection and EA titles are horrible for me? if there is an issue then all games should run equally bad
- 3 years ago
The unclearable hurdle is that this weird input delay, heaviness, stop/start issue is not contained to online modes. It exists only on this EA title and offline as well. Something is going on at the grass roots level of the coding. Day 452 of no logical answer being provided.

I just don’t get how some people don’t seem to have any problems with it. I’m sure there are a ton who have it and just don’t notice. But how are there competitive players in LG/Esports that don’t notice this stuff and call it out. Not trying to gas myself up but I know every mechanic in NHL from years and years of no-lifing the game. Yet 75% of every online game for me is nearly unplayable levels of delay. Offline as well although I don’t play it. Ever since frostbite change it is beyond awful.

Playing NHL23 Online is really a great way to practice stoicism. Had a good connect in HUT Champions on Wedesney and Thursday, Friday, Saturday and especially today were terrible again. Tried the usual, resetting the router etc. nothing helped. I know it won't help but I started recording some videos again.
My opponents don't even have to do anything to get the puck (Clip 1 and 2), Clip 3 is Input Lag, Clip 4,5,6 are my own AI going offside, Clip 6 is getting stuck in the board, Clip 7 is not picking up the puck, Clip 8 is a weird loss of balance, Clip 9 is Tkachuk not shooting immediately (Input Lag), subsequent pass I move the stick to the left and try to shoot (controller overlay would prove this, why was this feature ever removed...), Jokinen makes an awkward backhand shot instead, Tkachuk reaches the puck first but his stick is stuck somehow and he loses the battle for the puck, Clip 10 is missing the net twice and Clip 11 is not picking up the puck again as in Clip 7.
Of course, I could have saved way more videos, for example what is not seen in the videos and pisses me off the most is when I connect with the poke check and the opposing player never loses the puck, he basically picks up the puck immediately again. It just so frustrating, anyway, I still regret buying this game and I still feel stupid for even playing it anymore.

Umm no, it is because EA games using RVSP protocol which is rare to use in games. Also it is happening at the AWS data centers. So what you are saying doesn't make sense, it is happening in EA games because FIFA/NHL both use GVSP and AWS, it doesn't happen in WZ because they use different netcode, have different servers.
I haven't noticed it offline at all, which makes me think we are talking about two separate things. Play a non HUT/WoC game mode like VS and you will see it is not the same, no heaviness or delay.
- 3 years ago@niccolo91ea If you're talking to me, I started the thread, so if we're talking about two separate things, that's not on me -- I've been crystal clear. I will see there's no delay? I get delay even in Offline Free Skate, let alone VS, with no other issues on any other game online or offline, and it just started with NHL22. You can see that on page 1. AWS doesn't explain that.
- 3 years ago@DeliveryForKiki I just watched that video, yea that looks crazy. I wonder what the issue is? I don't think that ever happened to me offline, I just went into free skate and it is super smooth. I wonder if the online thing is somehow related?
- 3 years ago@DeliveryForKiki also since it happens in offline mode when you are connected online, maybe bring your setup to a relatives house and see how it works? It sounds like it happens in offline modes bc you are still connected to the internet, even when you are offline mode, some stuff is going on in the background. At least if you used someone else's ISP and it still happened, you could cross out that it is internet related.

I decided to test things out before bed. It worked normally at first in loadout free skate (although I had to fix the vibration by going into Play Now). You can see me doing a lot of zig zag moves, just to feel the snappiness of the inputs. And it looks snappy -- I have gold elite edges. I'm mixing in some right stick movements, LTs, etc. Humble brag: I don't look like a total idiot.

Now, minutes later within the same session, I recorded the exact moment things begin to get screwy. You can see I do the tight zig zag. But halfway through, as I'm skating back up out of the d-zone, I suddenly have my stops whenever trying to turn. I'm doing the same zig zags, but now I look like an idiot. My player gets stiff, locked up, no fluidity in animations like you just saw previously, despite the same inputs on my end. Without any stoppages, I get my delay in a non-server mode, and this is how the game generally plays online. Something happens within the game, and it's inarguable.
- 3 years ago@niccolo91ea I've unplugged my ethernet and gone totally offline into free skate, still doesn't change. Or at least it has the same inconsistencies. New accounts don't seem to produce better results for me. It's an offline/online issue only on this game across 3 Xboxs and all hardware being swapped.
The only thing I notice is totally deleting all data, then going offline, then not signing into any account so no data is saved, then going into offline free skate (my clips above are in WoC, but it's the same result)......seems to work. It has happened in both NHL22 and 23 with no prior issues. Something is going wrong with the data flow or code or whatever. - Dadaruklija3 years agoRising Scoutvery simple, EA also knows what's wrong but they can't seem to fix it because it seems too complicated. What can I say, the connection was fabulous for me in the first 11-12 days, then suddenly in the middle of the game what can be seen in the clips from thread creator happened from one second to the other and since that date everything has even changed worsened even more

@DeliveryForKiki @I have this exact same problem. It usually starts a minute or so after puck drop in world of Chel games. But do you think some people aren’t affected by this problem? Because I feel like I play with some people who don’t have issues at all
- 3 years ago@9up3dprurovj I have no idea why you or I are affected by this. And I assume a minority of others. I provide concrete video evidence of it happening, and it gets ignored or waved away with a "we'll look into it." It cannot be anything other than something native to this game, and I suspect, this engine since that's when it started.

Hmm. Only thing I could think of is maybe something with the Xbox accessories app? I have used Elite controllers and I know that there is some sort of data stored there that I have tried clearing but it never seems to fully go away. I have definitely cleared the Elite controller globally before and it somehow comes back later out of nowhere. I wonder if all the profiles linked to my gamer tag have piled up and caused issues. No clue what else it could be at this point. Or something with the EA account itself and the data stored there?

It's only this game and NHL22 before it. I've never owned an Elite controller before last week. I still get my delay with it, although it feels a bit better than my normal X/S controller. It's not an accessory or hardware rooted issue, although the problem with the game might have some complicated effect on them.
I do like how I posted my videos and was met with total silence as usual. Real high priority stuff.
- 3 years ago@DeliveryForKiki I did an experiment and turned free sync off on my monitor and I noticed a modest improvement offline and online. Freesync was causing some stuttering, slow animations for some reason. I know that is probably not the answer for your issues but I recommend trying that as well.
@niccolo91eaMy ASUS has G-sync. I've of course tried every combination of settings. I've had it on and off to no avail. You'd think if my monitor (I have 2) was causing anything that it would manifest in other games, especially ones with much higher FPS counts and graphics demand.
I was playing very late last night, and I noticed that in the middle of the night (I'm a late night gamer regularly though), I randomly got a totally clean game of EASHL, after hours of play. I'm talking normal, and I felt like I was flying like I haven't in a long time. I could out-react anyone, I was getting hit bubbles, everything was instantaneous. And I was on some weird server with twice my normal ping, go figure. Doesn't explain why or why my issue is offline too, but even after a year of this crap, I KNOW the moment my game flickers to normalcy. - 3 years ago@DeliveryForKiki yea I lost a game in Rivals tonight and it was super frustrating. I am east of NYC and opponent was from STL and I was literally slow the whole game. He actually got a goal from center ice faceoff where he just straightlined down the middle and my defenders are slow to switch and can't skate with him.
Game is really a joke, I can't say it is a cloud issue for me because I have no issue offline, once I turned freesync off my HP Omen monitor I realized there was actually a slight delay prior and since everything offline was so smooth. Went from winning Squad battles games 8-1, 7-2, to 13-1 16-1 etc.
The connection to servers is the key I believe because I can play VS all night and not experience this thing everyone in this thread experiences.
I was thinking about changing my ISP to see if they route differently to the server but from other's experience it seems that won't help either. The silence on the side of EA is pretty telling, look at FIFA forums; they have thousands of people complaining about same thing and no one there says "We aren't getting enough complaints" they just ignore the threads lol Wish we could get EA developer or network person to explain the issue to us. - Dadaruklija3 years agoRising Scout
Here i have something from the german FIFA Forum, i translated it into English
So what you are all describing right now, especially @Xxstarplayerxx0, seems more likely to be due to a problem in the execution of FIFA 23.
It's definitely not the internet. If it were just a connection issue, you'd have permanent stuttering, freeze with sudden fast-forwarding, or significant asynchronous delays. And that's only for online games.
But this is also about gameplay in offline modes, i.e. where only the locally saved program on your own hard drive works during a game.
Since, as is well known, it either always works well for some and only temporarily for others, and others report that it suddenly stopped working after a patch, it may well be that the installation of a patch did more damage than it did should have fixed. Patch files contain all the errors that need to be corrected, which are then corrected at the appropriate points in the Fifa main program. After all, no complete main program is replaced.
Would we be surprised if a patch would destroy the entire gameplay when installed? At least some bugs were not fixed, contrary to the changelog, or new bugs suddenly appeared after an installed patch. In individual cases, a patch can also destroy the entire gameplay.
Have you ever deleted all FIFA completely (including all scores, squad files, etc., absolutely everything) and downloaded the latest version in its entirety, i.e. without having to run any patches over it? Maybe several times in a row, if you notice that it's still not playable offline?
Well at least that's what I do whenever I find the game running noticeably different or glitchy after a patch has been installed. And when my game console downloads and installs something, I always wait to play until everything is downloaded and installed, so as not to load the hard drive with too many reads and writes, which could potentially result in the risk of errors.
At least on a PlayStation, the complete patch is always downloaded first and then the data on the patch file is gradually copied into the main program. In other words, it is checked when and where which data from the patch file has to be copied into the main file of FIFA 23.

Why is versus so much better than EASHL. The skating and overall feel is night and day, even though the ping fluctuates much more and is generally higher. feels like I am playing NHL19/20/21. Great responsiveness compared to EASHL which is basically unplayable at all times
- 3 years ago@niccolo91ea I will change my ISP soon because I will move in the end of the year.
I can give you feedback on that but since I already tested more than 8 ISPs in different regions of Germany I don't have much hope. - Dadaruklija3 years agoRising Scout

- 3 years ago@DeliveryForKiki I came upon this thread a few days ago, mainly because I have been having the exact same issues for a period of 5 years now with FIFA - dating back to FIFA 18.
Like you, I've gone through multiple consoles, PS and Xbox, and eventually to the PC version of FIFA this year. No luck. I've been with 3 different ISPs during this time, have used 4 different modems, various routers (note - DumaOS will not fix this issue), and have switched out various other equipment like controllers and monitors. Have fiddled with a ton of settings all these pieces of equipment, and the end results have repeatedly left me back at stage one. It's groundhog day every time I get a new idea to try out.
Two weeks ago, I had a period of 12 or so hours where the gameplay on FIFA felt like a fever dream. I was winning nearly all of my games. Rivals was a breeze, WL was a breeze. The next day, back to the same old. Honestly, it felt very cruel, but we are just playing video games after all so it doesn't really affect my sanity at the end of the day. Still, to get a taste of something like that and then to go back to the usual was a bit depressing.
I replicated what you did by uninstalling the game and booting it up offline after reinstalling it. The gameplay was smooth in the arena and other modes. It was that way for a little bit after coming back online, and within an hour, it was all sluggish again. Tried some squad battles, and it felt like the latency was 300ms.
I'm still not sure who or what the culprit is. Every other game works fine. Maybe its the routing. Some people say its node congestion and its your ISP at fault, but this doesn't explain why other games aren't affected. Some say its EA inducing DDA, which was never a good explanation because some people seem to always have it good connection wise. Anyways, this is just a usual tepid request for some sort of clarity from someone on EA's side. - 3 years ago
A few people in FIFA figured out the problem, packets were getting lost and resent at the last hops of the network server (AWS).
EAs UOtrace tool and the in game monitor network performance monitor only show UDP packets sent, so it shows no packet loss.
The games information is sent on GVSP packets though, and those are getting dropped and resent. So there is no way for you to know that this is happening unless you use packet sniffer software, have a network switch etc. There is no other reason why every game I play with dedicated servers feels delayed, and every game I play in VS feels fine.
Also this guy barely gets 8 wins a week in HUT Champions, he goes on a business trip to Montreal and Vancouver and at different times he gets 18 wins. You know how hard it is to get 18 wins in Champions especially if you are a 8 win player? He goes 8/20 his whole career and then goes 18-2 lol just by playing in a different town closer to the server...

The game is almost all connection.

Every game is the same for me. First couple minutes are smooth, responsive, no input delay. Right around a couple minutes in there is significant delay and the whole game becomes unplayable. same thing happens in free skate. First minute great, then the laggy clunky skating shows up
